Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit Developing ETL/ELT data pipelines, administering and supporting the cloud-based data warehousing, modeling, and analytics infrastructure. Position Summary This position is part of the Data Engineering and Architecture team in the Information TechnologyServices department. The team is responsible for delivering a modern data warehousing infrastructure that enables data-driven decisions across the University. This position is responsible for developing & maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines for the enterprise data platforms; ensuring data quality readability, & accessibility of data assets; Ingesting & integrating data from various sources into the data platform; and collaborating with data consumers to provide the necessary data for the use case. This position will focus on the administration of Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, and other data engineering tools as the need arises. The Data Engineering and Architecture team is part of the Enterprise Technology Infrastructure that strives to connect, enable, and empower people through technology that transforms the University and the region. This position is expected to develop and maintain an expert skill level in cloud-first data technologies and work hands-on with the latest technologies.
This position is eligible for teleworking; however, some in-person assignments may be necessary at the supervisor’s discretion. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with 1-2 years experience in data engineering, data warehousing, database administration, data science, or system administration required. Proven experience with one or more modern programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, R, SQL, TSQL, PL/SQL. Working knowledge and 1-2 years of experience with public cloud infrastructures such as Microsoft, Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Amazon Web Services (AWS). Working knowledge of DevOps processes and procedures. Experience with Windows and Unix-based operating systems. Proven ability to communicate and present highly technical information with other non-technical staff. Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications 2+ years experience data management using Python. 2+ years experience with the Microsoft Azure cloud data infrastructure. Essential Tasks Develops, builds, and manages ETL/ELT pipelines for the ingestion of data sources into the data platforms. Collect and translate business requirements into data models. Securely manage cloud-based data platform infrastructure. Be an active participant in data warehousing and analytics projects. Proficiency in T-SQL, Azure Synapse, dimensional modeling, PySpark, and building data pipelines. Percentage Of Time 35 Key Responsibility Support the Enterprise Data Platform Essential Tasks Build, administers, maintains, & monitors the data estate by using data catalogs, governance, and security capabilities inherent within the data management platforms. Build, administers, maintains, & monitors the cloud-based data using the appropriate analytics tools. Actively optimizes for performance of processes and programs associated with the data platform. Examine new cloud technologies that may increase effectiveness and performance. Leveraging Azure services provide data integration, scalability, and enhanced usability of the UNCG’s data assets. Test and document data definitions. Develop technical documentation, including knowledge articles for internal and external users.
