We are looking for a Data Engineer to join the Discovery Chemistry Research and Technologies (DCRT) organization. This role is essential for facilitating global access to scientific data related to Small Molecule Drug Discovery Research. The candidate should have a solid background in data engineering, some skills in software engineering, and a general understanding of drug discovery and arising data types. Additionally, they should possess strong collaborative skills to work with cross function/site teams. The main objectives of this position are to expedite the Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) cycle times, reduce data silos leveraging FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability). The position will hold the system owner role of data solutions in the DCRT organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will:
Understand and integrate domain-specific data across three pillars of DCRT (Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Pharmacology, Computational Chemistry).
Devise and implement data strategies to streamline integration and support decision-making.
Prioritize and address data-related requests with cross-functional partners, aligned to portfolio needs.
Design and implement data pipelines ensuring data integrity, quality, and consistency adhering to FAIR principles (might include database creation).
Deep involvement in modernization of existing data systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chemists, biologists, software engineers and IT stakeholders to address current issues and implement new solutions leveraging both hierarchical and non-hierarchical leadership.
Provide training and support to end-users on data tools and platforms.
Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Enthusiastic and self-motivated, with excellent communication skills necessary to operate effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment with flexibility and an adaptable approach to goal delivery.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in data engineering applied to drug discovery.
Proven experience designing and/or implementing data and software solutions for drug discovery, including experience with corresponding data types for each domain.
Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written).
Additional Desired Skills:
• Experience with external/public drug discovery information.
• Familiarity with data analytics platforms (e.g. KNIME) and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and cheminformatics is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge status quo and influence across organizations
Travel Requirements:
• Considerable travel time required across Research sites to balance attention to global and local needs.
