This role will be part of Actuarial Information Services, a dedicated team of business and technical experts that supports enterprise-critical regulatory reporting, reserving and other functions. Our team is a cross-functional team of data engineers and business analysts working in a highly collaborative environment which involves interaction between many internal departments (as mentioned previously) and external companies/regulators/etc. We are seeking a candidate with a strong foundation in data management, data engineering and process automation who has a drive for finding efficient solutions to maximize business value.

As a Data Engineer, you will be a key contributor to supporting our Financial Controllers teams with all of the needed data in a timely and (most importantly) accurate fashion. Our team culture prioritizes teamwork and cooperation with clear communication skills and a deep knowledge of data in order to pull and validate needed data sets. You will need to use creative, outside-the-box thinking to solve problems in a complex business environment while still executing your solutions with logical and structured code that meets our production standards.
 

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).


Responsibilities: 

Work with business partners to modify/enhance/troubleshoot our reserving applications in order to meet the requirements set by our Financials Controllers teamArchitect innovative solutions that continue to advance reserving capabilities while maintaining focus on delivering what is truly needed to our business partners in a timely fashionIdentify opportunities to optimize processes by creatively harnessing available data/tools, reusing strategic components and reducing system complexities where appropriateSolve problems in an efficient and structured manner; understand the desired outcome, assess a root cause, produce a viable and realistic solution for our business partnersProactively assess technical issues and risks that could impact speed, functionality, flexibility, or clarity Use Toad for Oracle to connect to multiple Oracle databases and access needed datasetsManage day-to-day research or project workWhen appropriate, leverage Agile methodology to work iteratively pairing closely with our business partners

Requirements: Bachelors degree and 3 years of experience programming with PL/SQL in a business setting required. Some experience with Linux script and file management is a plus.Experience using T-SQL in a business setting required.Demonstrated history of manipulating and extracting information from various data structures and databases required.Demonstrated passion to learning new skills whether it be technical or business-related.Ability to articulate and train technical concepts regarding data management to non-technical business partners. Detail and results driven with commitment to managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.High level of independence and self-direction, but also a team player that demonstrates ownership and follow-throughAny experience with the below technologies is a plus:AWS Cloud certification or experienceSnowflake certification or experiencePostgres experienceResQ experienceTM1 experience

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$97,600 - $146,400
