Data Engineer (On Site)

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Minimum of 3 years related experience in a data engineering, computer science, statistics, information systems, or other quantitative field. 3 or more years of experience in a Microsoft SQL environment developing and tuning simple to complex queries. Ability to travel up to 25% ​Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in data management, data analytics, data science, computer science, business, information technology, engineering, or a related subject Experience with the techniques used to model data for analysis and the skills to implement those models. Experience with the data constructs and analytical tools in an Azure cloud environment and/or the technical acumen to rapidly develop those skills. Working knowledge of SSIS, Python, R, Databricks and Synapse. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the interpersonal skills to effectively work across various business and IT functions. Able to work equally well in a self-directed and/or team environment.

DATA ENGINEER - On Site, Azure in a SQL Server Environment

Howmet Aerospace seeks an experienced, driven, self-starter to fill the role of Data Engineer.  Successful candidates will have strong capabilities and demonstrated success in the following area:  

Modeling, designing and building data pipelines and workflows, in both on-premise and cloud environments, to support the AI and analytics needs of data scientists. The use of SQL to develop complex, well-tuned queries to merge, join, and manipulate datasets.

Extensive interaction with functional and IT resources will be required making effective communication skills essential.  The qualified candidate must be a self-starter capable of managing medium sized projects working either independently or participating in and/or leading a small team.  This position will be located in on our Whitehall, MI campus and is an on site position.

Primary job duties include:

Work directly with technical resources to understand the data sources within the business and with data scientists and analysts to understand how that data needs to be shaped for analysis. Build data models, pipelines, and workflows to source, acquire, consolidate, clean, and structure data for use in data science and analytical applications. Trouble shoot data related issues and assist in resolving them.      Improve data quality and reliability.  Create methods to validate data. Develop, test, tune, and/or redesign medium to complex SQL queries. As a member of the IT BI Team, act as a conduit between the business and the data architecture team to: Productionize newly developed data pipelines and workflows. Provide feedback on business data needs and uses. Represent/implement the BU data strategy related to tools, security, standards, and processes. Pursue continuous learning consistent with changes in the businesses need for data and the tools and techniques used to analyze it.
