GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Potbelly Sandwich Shop, celebrated for its delightful sandwiches and cozy ambiance, is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineering Team Lead to join our data and analytics team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of data engineers in designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring that our data systems are efficient, reliable, and aligned with business goals.
As the Data Engineering Team Lead, you will drive best practices in data engineering, mentor team members, and collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to enable data-driven decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership: Guide the data engineering team in the development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and architectures.Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance and career growth opportunities.Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT processes to transform raw data into structured formats for analytics and reporting.Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business teams to understand data needs and ensure effective data solutions.Optimization: Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of data infrastructure, including database tuning and distributed processing.Data Governance & Security: Implement best practices for data quality, governance, and security compliance.Project Management: Plan and manage data engineering initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with company objectives.Technology & Innovation: Stay up-to-date with emerging data engineering trends, technologies, and tools to drive innovation.REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.5+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or mentoring role.Strong experience with SQL, Python, Spark, and ETL frameworks.Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and technologies such as Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.Proficiency in data modeling, schema design, and performance optimization in relational and NoSQL databases.Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, dbt) and version control systems (Git).Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for data applications and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.NICE TO HAVE
Experience with real-time data processing (Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink).Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and MLOps practices.Familiarity with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and data governance frameworks.Certifications in AWS, GCP, or Azure data services are a plus.
