The Data Governance Specialist will be responsible for leading and conducting data governance implementation for key risk applications.  The Specialist will guide and support Data Owners, Stewards, and Custodians in fulfilment of the firm’s Data Governance Standards.  This includes work in metadata management, data quality, lineage, data privacy, and data retention.  The Specialist will function as a change agent and advocate for data governance best practices.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Educate Data Owner, Stewards, and Custodians on the principles of data governanceCollaborate with Data Practitioners to develop and ensure appropriate metadata curationLead working sessions to gather data quality requirements and liaison with the Data Quality Team to ensure the proper construction of data quality rules and associated reportingDevelop and document data retention strategiesGuide and support documentation of PII attribution and data lineageLiaison with Enterprise Data Governance Team, Risk Data Governance Team, plus 2nd and 3rd Lines of DefensePlan and manage multiple applications’ data governance implementation at any one timeServe as a trusted advisor to Data Owner, Stewards, and Custodians on all data governance mattersBridge knowledge and technical gaps for Data OwnersAnalyze and solution data governance or quality issues, considering multiple stakeholder perspectives and requirementsOversee periodic reviews to ensure continued compliance with the Data Governance StandardsSupport ad hoc data governance, quality, or analytics efforts for Risk Analytics and Data Services (RADS) or the greater Risk Management function

Knowledge/Skills:

Understand and be capable of effectively communicating data governance principles to both business and technical communitiesPossess broad-based knowledge of risk data and the ability to curate metadataCapable of engaging senior leadership within business, operations, and technologyPossess excellent verbal and written communication skillsPossess proven facilitation and conflict resolution skillsPossess exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

A College or University degree10+ years of experience in financial services or consulting Experience implementing financial or risk data governance programsExperience using data governance platforms (such as Collibra)Detailed knowledge of industry data governance models (such as DCAM)General knowledge of Risk Management functions/regulations for financial institutionsExperience leading enterprise initiatives or cross function projects
