Data Governance Subject Matter Expert
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead and implement robust data governance frameworks and solutions leveraging Microsoft Purview. Come Join Us The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data governance practices, metadata management, data quality, data lineage, and data cataloging. A strong background in data architecture and data engineering is desirable for ensuring alignment between governance and technical implementations. Together we do what matters. What you’ll do Microsoft Purview Implementation: * Design, implement, and manage Microsoft Purview solutions to establish comprehensive data governance frameworks. * Configure and customize Purview for metadata management, data quality management, data lineage tracking, and data catalog functionality. * Define and implement policies, classifications, and workflows for sensitive data discovery and compliance monitoring. * Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to integrate Purview with other enterprise tools and data platforms (e.g., Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks). Data Governance Frameworks: * Define and implement data governance policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure data quality, security, and compliance. * Establish roles and responsibilities for data stewardship and governance across the organization. * Drive adoption of governance practices by conducting training, workshops, and creating documentation for users and stakeholders. Metadata and Data Lineage Management: * Develop and maintain a unified metadata management framework, ensuring consistency and accuracy across data assets. * Implement and monitor end-to-end data lineage to enable transparency, traceability, and impact analysis for business-critical data flows. * Ensure the continuous enrichment and management of metadata repositories to improve data discoverability and usability. Data Quality Management: * Define and implement data quality rules, KPIs, and monitoring processes to ensure high standards of data integrity and accuracy. * Collaborate with data engineering teams to embed data quality checks into ETL/ELT pipelines and other data workflows. * Create dashboards and reports to track data quality metrics and address quality issues proactively. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: * Work closely with business units, data stewards, and IT teams to align governance initiatives with organizational goals. * Act as a trusted advisor, guiding teams on best practices for data management and governance. * Provide leadership in adopting governance tools and practices, ensuring alignment with business needs. Technical Enablement: * Collaborate with data architects and engineers to design scalable, secure, and future-proof data platforms. * Integrate Purview with existing data pipelines, warehouses, and lakes to enable automated metadata harvesting and lineage tracking. * Evaluate emerging trends in data governance tools and technologies, recommending enhancements or upgrades as necessary. Skills & Experience Core Expertise: * Strong hands-on experience implementing and managing Microsoft Purview for data governance, metadata management, data lineage, data quality, and data cataloging. * Deep understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and methodologies (e.g., DAMA, DCAM). * Experience in designing and implementing data quality frameworks, data stewardship models, and data governance processes. * Proficiency in metadata standards and protocols (e.g., JSON, RDF, OpenMetadata, and Data Catalog APIs). Technical Background: * Solid understanding of data architecture, including data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data storage solutions. * Hands-on experience with Azure Data Services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Databricks). * Proficiency in SQL and data querying for metadata and quality monitoring. * Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure, and their role in enabling data governance. Soft Skills: * Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business terms. * Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to addressing governance challenges. * Leadership abilities to drive cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in data governance for regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, or manufacturing. * Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and compliance standards. * Certification in data governance, such as DAMA CDMP or TOGAF. * Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
