Role Overview:

Lead the design, deployment, and operational management of the Nightwing Data infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring robust development and seamless operations across all data environments, supporting high-stakes, data-driven initiatives. You will guide a technical team in establishing, maintaining, and evolving the data infrastructure via the mesh paradigm, handling the entire lifecycle from architecture to troubleshooting and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Development: Oversee the full lifecycle of infrastructure development for the Nightwing Data stack, covering design, build, test, and deployment phases.

Operations Leadership: Manage the operational stability of the data mesh, including regular upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance to support continuous availability and performance.

Technology Integration: Deploy data technologies such as Data Lakes, Data Warehouses (e.g AWS S3, Redshift), Streaming and Orchestration (e.g., Apache Spark/Airflow/Iceberg, AWS Kinesis, MSK, Glue) to support efficient data workflows and across distributed environments.

Data Governance & Compliance: Implement and enforce governance policies to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across all warehouse and lake environments.

Collaboration & Support: Partner with data scientists and analysts, integrating machine learning tools into the data mesh to enhance analytical capabilities and insights.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Track and enhance data mesh performance metrics, focusing on query efficiency, data retrieval speed, and system resilience.

Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that emphasizes technical excellence and reliability.

Emerging Technologies: Continuously evaluate and integrate new technologies to keep the Nightwing Data Mesh on the cutting edge of data infrastructure advancements.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Develop and maintain thorough documentation of infrastructure processes and standards to facilitate knowledge sharing across the team.

Required Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in data engineering, cloud engineering, or infrastructure development roles, with 3+ years in data warehouse or data lake environments.

Technical Proficiency: Expertise in integration and orchestration technologies, including Apache Spark, Airflow, Iceberg, and AWS streaming tools (Kinesis, MSK).

Cloud Ecosystem Knowledge: Extensive experience with AWS data services; familiarity with multi-cloud environments (GCP, Azure).

Leadership Skills: Proven experience leading a technical team, with strong communication skills for diverse stakeholder engagement.

Operational Expertise: Hands-on experience with infrastructure operations, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and performance optimization.

Data Governance: Strong understanding of governance, security, and compliance requirements within data environments.

Desired Qualifications:

Big Data & ETL Process Knowledge: Familiarity with big data frameworks and ETL pipeline development.

Certifications: AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications in cloud architecture or data engineering.

Industry Background: Experience in Defense, Intelligence, or related fields is highly desirable.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Management, or related field. Master’s or Ph.D. in relevant disciplines is a plus.

Security Clearance:

Must be a US Citizen. No clearance required at the time of hiring, but a Secret or higher clearance is preferred or the ability to obtain one.

The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD - 221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
