Job Description Project Objective The main aim of this project is to design and implement a data quality control mechanism to validate the accuracy and completeness of CMDB (Configuration Management Database) application-CI (Configuration Items) to server relationship data. Ensuring data integrity within the CMDB is critical for the efficiency and reliability of IT operations and services. Scope The scope of this project includes the following key activities: 1. Data Source Identification Identify independent data sources that can be used for validating the relationship data. These data sources must be reliable, accurate, and capable of providing the necessary information for comprehensive validation. Potential data sources include but are not limited to:  Existing IT infrastructure databases  Network management tools  Server inventory systems  Manual records and spreadsheets 2. Automated Data Extraction and Aggregation Develop an automate process to extract and aggregate data from these identified sources. This process will involve:  Designing an extraction method that can interface with multiple data sources  Aggregating the extracted data into a unified format for analysis  Performing validations against the existing CMDB application data to identify discrepancies  Ensuring the automated process is robust, scalable, and maintainable 3. Handling Unavailable Source Data In cases where source data is unavailable, identify and document the approaches necessary to capture the dataset for future automation. This will involve:  Analyzing the gaps in available data  Developing strategies to capture the missing data  Documenting the necessary steps and tools required for capturing the data  Implementing manual data validation controls as interim solutions Deliverables The delivery of this project includes the following key components: 1. Documented Data Requirements A comprehensive documentation of data requirements, including sources and owners, will be provided. This document will outline:  The types of data required for validation  The sources from which the data will be obtained  The ownership and responsibilities associated with each data source  Any data quality and integrity standards that must be met 2. Data Flow and Process Flow Charts Detailed data flow and process flow charts for the automated data validation process will be developed. These charts will illustrate:  The flow of data from source extraction to aggregation  The validation steps and checks performed on the data  The integration points with the CMDB application  The overall process architecture and workflow 3. Implemented Automated Control The implementation of automated control for validating CMDB Application CI to server relationship data will be completed. In cases where automation isn't feasible due to the lack of data, the following will be documented and implemented:  The approach to capture the necessary data  Manual data validation controls as interim measures  Plans for transitioning from manual to automated controls as data becomes available Project Management and Timeline This section will outline the project management approach and timeline for the project. Key milestones and deliverables will be highlighted, along with the project schedule. 1. Project Planning The project will kick off with a planning phase, which includes:  Defining the project scope and objectives  Establishing a project team and assigning roles and responsibilities  Creating a detailed project plan with timelines and milestones 2. Implementation Phases The project will be executed in multiple phases to ensure a structured and systematic approach:  Phase 1: Data Source Identification  Conducting a thorough analysis of potential data sources  Engaging with data owners to secure access Phase 2: Automated Data Extraction and Aggregation Developing the automated extraction and aggregation process Testing the process with sample data Phase 3: Data Validation and Control Implementation Validating the extracted data against CMDB application data Implementing automated and manual controls as required 3. Monitoring and Reporting Continuous monitoring and reporting will be essential to track the progress and ensure the project's success:  Regular status updates and progress reports  Periodic reviews and evaluations of the implemented controls  Adjusting the project plan as needed based on feedback and findings Conclusion This project aims to enhance the accuracy and completeness of CMDB application-CI to server relationship data through a comprehensive data quality control mechanism.
