Data Risk Analyst

This is a crucial role on the Model & Data Risk Management team, which is a new and expanding unit at Guardian, and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to identify potential data-related risks, monitor compliance with data protection regulations, and work closely with the Data Management team to safeguard the organization’s data assets.

As part of Guardian’s strategy to Wow the Customer, Reimagine Mutuality, and Unleash What’s Possible, the Data Risk function will focus on building an enterprise program to provide second line of defense oversight of data, models, artificial intelligence, and technology supporting Guardian’s critical business and analytic processes. Effective collaboration and engagement amongst the internal team as well as with the various business areas is essential towards achieving success in this role.

You will:

Support the following key responsibilities:

Risk Assessment and Management​

Identify, assess, and prioritize data-related risks and vulnerabilities.​

Develop and implement risk management strategies and mitigation plans.​

Conduct risk assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls.​

Develop and maintain key risk indicators that enable prioritization and reporting of data management activities.

Compliance and Governance

Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards.​

Develop and maintain data governance policies.

Work with legal and compliance teams to address data-related legal and regulatory requirements.​

Provide insight into the state of data management and governance risk forums.

Reporting and Documentation

Prepare and present risk reports and risk management metrics to senior management and stakeholders.​

Document risk assessments, mitigation plans, and compliance activities.​

Training and Awareness

Develop and deliver training programs on data risk management and compliance for employees.​

Promote awareness of data risks and best practices across the organization.​

Collaboration and Communication

Work with various departments to understand their data-related risks and requirements.​

Provide guidance and support to business units on data risk management issues.​

You have:

3+ years of experience in technical risk management, preferably with a focus on data risk or data governance.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as data science, mathematics, or computer science.

Experience in the Insurance or Financial Services sectors preferred.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, ability to collaborate with business and technical teams.

Familiarity with data risk tools, reporting platforms, and governance technologies, knowledge of Collibra and Varonis applications is a plus.

Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience working with data management solutions, such as data quality platforms, and data cataloging tools.

Understanding of regulatory requirements related to data management.

Conceptual understanding of database management systems and Windows file systems.

The ability to accelerate impact and the desire to lead change.

Reporting Relationship:

The Data Risk Manager reports to the Head of Model & Data Risk Management, who reports to the Head of Financial Risk Management

Location:   

Hybrid role - 3 days in the office, 2 days WFH. Guardian home offices located in Bethlehem, PA or Hudson Yards, NYC.

Travel to Guardian offices as determined by the People Leader.

Salary Range:

$101,180.00 - $166,220.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
