The NORAD & USNORTHCOM, USSPACECOM Operations department provides multidisciplinary systems and operational engineering for North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), and Headquarters United States Space Command (USSPACECOM). The department is a vibrant element of the N250 Joint Staff (JS) and Combatant Command (CCMD) Division, emphasizes collaboration and sponsor mission orientation. Several MITRE corporate initiatives have roots or leadership in this department: Homeland Defense, thought leadership for Space as a Warfighting Domain, resiliency analysis for critical infrastructure, and lead for MITRE's Arctic Experimentation efforts.
As an Intern working in data science, operations research, math and statistics, you will work as part of a team of interns and early career staff helping to solve problems for the Department of Defense. You will apply your knowledge and gain experience with one or more of the following:
+ Data analysis and visualization
+ Augmented decision making and trusted analytics
+ Applied mathematics, statistics, and optimization
+ Simulation and computational analytics
+ Systems modeling and analysis
+ Operational effectiveness and efficiency
+ Knowledge discovery
+ Next-gen data environments
Basic Qualifications
+ Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Data Science or a related degree program and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship
+ Sustained Academic Excellence
+ Knowledge of how retrieve data from databases and other systems and tools using queries, exporting capabilities, and other effective methods
+ Understanding with statistical software and data visualization tools such as R, SPSS, SAS, and UNIX shell scripting
Preferred Qualifications
+ Advanced Math through Calc II, Experience with modeling tools (e.g. SysML, MATLAB)
+ Experience retrieving data from databases and other systems and tools using queries, exporting capabilities, and other effective methods
+ Experience with statistical software and data visualization tools such as R, SPSS, SAS, and UNIX shell scripting
+ Proficiency in statistical software and data visualization tools such as R, SPSS, SAS, and UNIX shell scripting
+ Proficiency in one or more of the following: Python (scikit-learn, NumPy, pandas, Jupyter), Scala/Java, C/C++/C#, Objective C; database design & development (SQL, Neo4J, MongoDB); AWS
+ Has had previous internships, work experience or research experience in their field of study
+ Has applied learning outside of a classroom through involvement in student clubs, competitions, self-learning or similar events or activities in their field of study
+ Is involved in activities that require strong collaboration such as involvement in student clubs/organizations or other types of extracurricular activities
+ Demonstrates an interest in serving the public good by participating in volunteer activities
