About the Apprenticeship:

The Product Development Data Sciences (PDD) team and the data science cluster in the Roche Informatics Data and Analytics Chapter (DnA) in Welwyn Garden City are seeking high calibre apprentices to join our teams to contribute to the development of our medicines.

As part of PDD:

In the biopharmaceutical industry, each data point is part of a patient's story and their contribution to developing better medicines and understanding disease. It is our responsibility to maximise the use of this data for answering new questions and enabling larger-scale analyses for generating new insights. 

Successful candidates will use their data science and technical skills to contribute to the success of data science and insights generation at Roche working across diverse areas from the management and governance of data, to acquiring data and engineering solutions for visualising, integrating and analysing data, as well as ensuring data privacy, and also in areas such as learning and process management and healthcare compliance. 

As part of DnA:

You will be part of one or several multi-disciplinary agile teams where you’ll actively shape the future of healthcare by using data science methods and principles to generate deeper insights from a great variety of data sources. To achieve this, you will proactively identify needs, design and implement analytical solutions, provide advice and consulting support to our key stakeholders and show impact by executing proof-of-value initiatives, or contributing to existing products.

As well working towards a fully funded degree (BSc) in Data Science over 4 years, apprentices joining Roche will work as part of a team in the Product Development Data Sciences department or Roche Informatics Data and Analytics Chapter to deliver data and insights about our medicines and to provide solutions that aid the collection, database and analysis of clinical data for medicines in Roche’s diverse pipeline, contributing to the delivery of these to patients.

What you could be working on:

Delivering reliable analytics to enable Roche’s commitment to patients.

PDD:

You will provide analytical and programming expertise and/or leadership support for the reporting and analysis of clinical trials and related submissions to Health Authorities

Using R or SAS, Python and/or other programming languages.

Writing reusable functions and packages.

Manipulating and analyzing various data types related to clinical trials, including digital health, genomic and biomarkers

Transforming, organizing and analyzing healthcare data

DnA:

Be accountable for the development and implementation of Data Science products.

Use Python and/or other programming languages

Leverage predictive modelling, neural networks, machine learning, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, exploratory data analysis and other data science practices.

Support proactive identification of the most relevant analytical use cases in collaboration with key stakeholders.

Support prioritisation efforts, understand feasibility and business impact, take smart risks to make informed decisions in a fast-paced, evolving environment to deliver patient benefits faster.

Collaborate within global agile teams in the Roche Informatics business and foundational domains to develop products that provide the highest value to both Roche Pharma and Diagnostics business stakeholders.

Provide methodical and implementation guidance as well as hands-on support around analytical use cases.

Communicate findings and market the value of use cases to key stakeholders.

Contribute to positioning data science as a key competency within the enterprise

Continuously look for opportunities to broaden knowledge, capabilities, and skill set to enable talent to flow into different specialties.

Be a role model for knowledge sharing within the DnA chapter.

Act as a coach, mentor, or buddy to help colleagues grow and develop.

Essential Qualifications:

Either of the following

Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics or equivalent, Grade 4 in GCSE English Language or equivalent (prior to admission) with

BBC at A-Level to include Maths. The following A-Levels are not accepted: Citizenship Skills, General Studies, and Critical Thinking

Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship at Merit or Distinction

General Skills:

Influential and confident communicator

Demonstrates experience or is adaptable to utilizing and/or models modern ways of working consistently with an agile and growth mindset, and agile behaviours and methodologies. 

Fluency in written and spoken English

Ability to work across multiple cultures and countries

Willingness to travel as required
