Job Description:
Operation research analyst / Data Scientist (ORA/DS) – Uses advanced mathematical and analytical methods to help organizations solve problems and make better decisions. This position is responsible for identifying and answer questions related to detecting and mitigating Undammed Aircraft Systems (UAS) in a civilian airport environment. As part of the technology research team, the candidate will plan and execute research designed to collect research data, and then organize and analyze this data the characterizes the performance different UAS detection and/or mitigation technologies when applied to an operational airport. The data analysis results will be detailed by the candidate in technology performance reports.


The ORA/DS will examine information to determine its relevance to the problem. They will consider analysis methods and utilize statistical analysis, simulations, and predictive modeling to assess information and develop practical solutions and useful business tips. They will advise managers and other Stakeholders on the effects of different courses of action in reports, Engineering Briefs, and that explain their findings.
Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, analytics, or mathematics.


Experience: Minimum of 10-plus years of applicable experience; A MS in engineering, computer science, analytics, or mathematics can be used to replace 3 years of experience.

Qualifications for ORA/DS-3
· Training and/or experience in engineering, computer science, analytics, or mathematics
· Must have the ability to analyze research data to characterize system performance, and use this data to identify what, if any, areas require more and/or deeper research
· Needed visual representations of this data (e.g., data distribution over time, heat maps, scatter plots, and system performance over distance).
· Must have excellence written and verbal communications skills. Able to explain complex, technical material to technical and non-technical audiences.
· Must have demonstrated ability to author technical reports that present research results in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
· Able work with highly a collaborative team of technicians, UAS pilots, other Operational Researchers, Radio Frequency (RF) / Spectrum Engineers and UAS SMEs to assess UAS detection and mitigation technologies. This includes developing and executing RDT&E plans, collecting test results, data analysis, and present findings.
· Must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment using partially defined requirements.
· Must be able to work outdoors, during all seasons, to support system installations, calibration and shakedown testing, and data collection.
· May be required to lift objects weighting 25 lbs. or less.

Preferred Qualifications for Operations Research Analyst
· Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Visual BASIC.
· Experience with R Language, JMP, or MATLAB software and systems.
· Experience with Python software and systems.
· Demonstrated fluency with relational databases, mathematical optimization, algorithm design, or predictive modeling.
· Experienced with business process analysis or data manipulation.
· Demonstrative critical thinking and leadership skills.
· Fluency in statistics or and probability theory.
· Comfortable using leadership and critical thinking skills to lead decision making and assist with tasks such as cost estimates.
· Airport, or aviation related experience or working at the WJHTC is preferred but not required, e.g. airport operations, flight operations, pilot license, Part 107 Cert, or other aviation programs
