The Data Team within the broader Coles Technology Team focuses on building data collection and analytics capabilities to uncover customer, product, and operational insights. Providing data driven support to our users and enabling Coles to be a data driven organisation.

 

About the role

 

A new, permanent opportunity for a Data Scientist is now available at Coles.

 

As a Data Scientist, you will promote the use of Advanced Analytics solutions within Coles by researching new techniques in areas of prediction, regression, machine learning, text mining, mathematical optimisation etc to identify new opportunities for future solutions and translating complex mathematical techniques into commercial concepts.

 

You will participate in the delivery of Advanced Analytics projects in line with best practice to deliver solutions and services to stakeholders.

 

Key responsibilities will include

 

Shape and drive the AA values within the team  Share knowledge and experience across the team   Participate in the development of the vision for data / analytics architecture  Contribute to the direction and implementation of the data and analytics strategy and roadmap within Advanced Analytics team.  Deliver solutions articulating customer opportunity, commercial benefit, analytical findings and data recommendations.  Collaborate with stakeholders in Analytics, Commercial and IT streams to deliver valuable solutions to key business problems  Serve as a trusted advisor by cultivating relationships with stakeholders to improve their understanding and knowledge of analytical techniques and outcomes  Effective Communication with key stakeholders around the delivery of key projects  Design and implement new algorithms to meet business needs  Lead projects to deliver on time and high quality   Work according to the agile project methodology  Source, develop and apply new and existing analytical methods and techniques   Use of a variety of sources to keep abreast of industry practices  Ensure key stakeholders are updated, ensuring the commercial impact has been explored / communicated 

 

About you & your skills

 

You will have previous experience in a similar role, offering ongoing support to functional and technical stakeholders working in a large, complex and data driven organisation.  

 

You'll also need: 

 

Analytics professional with a proven track record (4+ years) in advanced analytics / data science / Measurement science and/or Econometrics  Track record in designing and delivering AA solutions  Key analytical techniques, e.g. regression, clustering, decision trees, machine learning, text mining, mathematical optimisation etc.  Analytical applications – R (highly desirable), Python, Scala, Hive, Spark, SQL, Excel  Productivity applications - Git, Jira, Confluence  Willing to work on-call 4 days/week 

 

 

Commercial Skills and Formal Qualifications

 

Bachelor or Masters degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Econometrics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Engineering or related field.  Business and commercial acumen
