**GENERAL DUTIES**
I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

**CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION**
The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) supports the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 26 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications, identifies and develops new technologies that advance the University's core mission, operates and maintains the University's network, the enterprise Data Center, and the CUNY Service Desk and manages the processes of safeguarding the University’s IT assets. Additionally, CIS maintains the security posture by operating the CUNY Security Operations Center (SOC), develops disaster recovery plans for business continuity, and supports the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that integrates student administration, financial management, and human resources operations across CUNY’s 26 colleges. Lastly, CIS provides strategic and operational IT leadership to all CUNY campuses.
The Data Storage Administrator is a key technical expert responsible for managing and optimizing enterprise storage infrastructure critical to the stability, scalability, and security of the university’s IT ecosystem. This role involves advanced responsibilities across multi-platform environments, requiring in-depth expertise to maintain high-performance systems and ensure uninterrupted access to mission-critical applications. The incumbent will lead initiatives involving resource optimization, system resilience, and advanced storage architecture to support the university's complex IT environment, impacting all 26 colleges. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, strategic decision-making, and technical proficiency in delivering innovative storage solutions while adhering to industry best practices and organizational goals.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Manages day-to-day administration of multi-platform storage systems, including Dell, NetApp, and Pure Storage solutions, as well as recovery methods for storage volumes; proactively monitors system utilization, implements performance enhancements, and conducts root cause analyses to resolve bottlenecks impacting enterprise applications.
+ Architects and implements scalable storage solutions, including SAN devices and fiber switch configurations; oversees NFS mount and CIFS share management, ensuring seamless integration across complex NAS environments and storage. volumes.
+ Designs and implements advanced backup strategies using Veeam software across Linux and Windows systems; manages cross-site replication for disaster recovery (DR) data, leveraging NetApp snapshots and other state-of-the-art recovery mechanisms to safeguard critical university data.
+ Develops and enforces policies, procedures, and run books consistent with industry standards, ensuring system integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence; provides technical recommendations to stakeholders on storage architecture and best practices.
+ Serves as a key liaison between technical teams, university divisions, and external vendors to clarify service expectations, resolve complex issues, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives; leads cross-functional discussions to enhance operational capabilities and scalability.
+ Conducts in-depth evaluations of emerging storage technologies, including cloud-based solutions, and recommends integrations to improve operational agility and efficiency; maintains expert knowledge of the latest tools and practices for storage performance optimization and security.
+ Mentors and guides junior staff on storage administration practices; collaborates with diverse teams to support large-scale installations, system upgrades, and equipment acquisitions.
+ Oversees project timelines, deliverables, and cross-departmental dependencies to achieve organizational goals.
+ Provides on-call support for high-priority incidents, including after-hours or weekend emergencies, ensuring rapid resolution of critical issues.
+ Executes ad hoc projects and initiatives that supports the university’s IT infrastructure and strategic objectives, with potential travel across the 5 boroughs.
**NOTES:**
1. Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
2. **An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.**
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
Preferred:
+ 5+ Years in-depth knowledge of and demonstrated hands-on professional experience with NetApp.
+ Hands-on knowledge of storage efficiency implementation, storage QOS, performance analysis, troubleshooting and root cause analysis, using NetApp tools.
+ In-depth knowledge of NetApp Active IQ Manager, OCUM, On Command System manager and CLI commands.
+ Expertise in configuring and managing SVM/volume-based replication, cluster configuration, Setting up LIFs, cluster interconnect etc., as per Industry Best practices.
+ Experience troubleshooting on Unix/Linux based systems.
+ Certification as a NetApp Certified Data Administrator or Veeam Certified Engineer, preferred.
+ Relevant EMC Data Domain management experience.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft 2012/2016/2019 Server Administration.
+ Knowledge of VMware vSphere.
+ Demonstrated integrity, independent thinking, judgment, and respect for others, with ability to influence cross-functional team members for projects and special initiatives.
+ Ability to navigate and effectively collaborate with other departments and resources on large complex projects and environments.
+ Outstanding communication skills with the ability to facilitate group discussions and communications, as well as effectively articulate requirements, collaborate, and lead presentations within a matrix management structure, to diverse groups of technical and non-technical teams, among all levels of university constituencies.
