General Description: Participate in the design and development of scalable data pipelines, transforming data and creating data products to empower business decision making. Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver data driven solutions. Includes data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders. Support data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.
Responsibilities:Utilize extract, load, and transform (ELT) methodologies to move data from various systems into a Snowflake enterprise data warehouse.Design, implement, and maintain scalable data ingestion pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).Leverage dbt and Jinga to build, test, and document data transformation within the Snowflake platform. Includes scalable, modular, and reusable data transformation workflows. Develop best practices for data ingestion, dataset creation, storage and updates, naming conventions, and retention.Architect, design and implement Kimball-style dimensional data models (e.g., star and snowflake schemas) to support business intelligence and reporting needs.Collaborate with stakeholders to define tables, views, and schemas to support data products.Monitor the data movement processes and pipelines for overall health and performance. Investigate and troubleshoot issues to ensure data availability and reliability.Fine tune and optimize SQL queries and pipelines for improved efficiency.
Cyber Security Job Responsibilities:Operate in accordance with USI Policies for the Information Security Program (PISP) and USI Standards for the Information Security Program (SISP).Keep up to date with security updates and improvements. Implement improvements as appropriate.Protect systems against unauthorized access by appropriately defining access.Upgrade systems by implementing and maintaining security and technical controls.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:5+ years of SQL programming, SQL database design, and data architecture concepts.Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or related field.Experience architecting data models and data warehousing techniques.Experience working with agile scrum methodology.Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps and Azure Data Factory.Advanced knowledge of Snowflake or similar cloud data warehousing.Solid understanding of modern data transformations using dbt or similar tools.Hands-on experience working with Git code repositories and CI/CD tools.Working knowledge of insurance brokerage or sales workflows and systems preferred.
Physical Demands:Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins. Employees operate office equipment including telephone - headset, Computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner, and mail machine. Physical tasks of job include walking, sitting, standing, and bending.
Analysis of Physical Demands:Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand, bend, and travel to various USI offices.
