Job Title: Database Administrator, Senior 

  

Job Summary 

The Database Administrator, Senior position is responsible for independently designing, implementing, and maintaining complex databases in a client, server environment with respect to access methods, access time, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methods. Additional responsibilities include involvement with designing databases and working with the users to develop specifications. Also, includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring and standard procedures, and integration of systems through client, server database design.  

  

Responsibility 

Mentor and provide guidance to Junior/Intermediate Database Administrators.   Provide 3rd tier support to existing applications.   Transfer existing applications to new technologies.   Work with Application Architect and System Analyst – Development to help design applications and databases.   Develop applications and databases to meet the business needs of the facilities, or the corporation on a whole.   Assist in collection and documentation of user standards.   Assist in development of logical and physical specifications.   Peer code reviews with DBA’s   Some project management.   Research new concepts as required to develop innovative solutions to business problems.   Meet with clients and information technology experts to clarify expectations and designs.   Ability to troubleshoot systems.   Develop and maintain disaster recovery documentation and processes. Ensure DBA team is trained and educated in DR processes.   Monitor and maintain KPI’s in which are directly related to DB’s supported.   Plan and execute DB upgrade roadmaps.  

 

Academic/Educational Requirements 

Post Secondary Education in computer science or in another related discipline.   Microsoft development and database certifications are recommended.   Minimum 6 years of dedicated database experience in a client, server environment.   Knowledge in the following:  General Programming Concepts and Languages;  Service Orientated Architecture and n-tier development;  Software Development Lifecycle methodologies and knowledge of ITIL processes;  Knowledge of the SQL language, Relational Database Design and Cube Design;  Experience working in the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 development environment using the C# language; Experience with Team Foundation Server;  Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 including SQL Server Database Services, SQL Server. Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL Server Reporting Services;  Experience working with Microsoft Windows SharePoint Service (WSS) 3.0;  Experience with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 would be considered an asset;  Experience deciphering Requirements Documents, Design Specifications;  Knowledge of Windows Communication Framework (WCF), Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and or Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) would be an asset.   Ability to work independently when designing, writing, testing or troubleshooting software applications.
