Short Description:

The DBA is responsible for data analysis and database management.  DBAs typically are involved in maintenance, enhancement, designing of data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning.

 

Complete Description:

Work will involve DB2 Database Administration Duties on AIX and Windows platforms.

 

            This person will be required to perform the following:

-           Install, configure and tune DB2 databases running on AIX and Windows platforms.

-           Design and develop DB2 database procedures, views, functions, constraints, triggers and scripts.

-           Develop and maintain database backup and recovery systems and procedures for recovery of lost or damaged data.

-           Perform database reorganizations and performance tuning regularly and proactively.

-           Ensure availability and performance of the databases that support the system.

-           Monitor the development and organization of the databases.

-           Analyze and identify problem conditions that could be attributed to database design, structure or software.

-           Provide technical assistance to systems designers and application programmers in the efficient use of databases.

-           Support installation of database releases into production as directed.

-           Perform DBMS version migrations and upgrades

-           Assess and implement new technologies as directed.

-           Execution of all responsibilities with little direct supervision of Team Lead.

-           Research problems before approaching the Team Lead for assistance.

-           Operating System expertise sufficient to perform performance and tuning diagnostics.

-           Generally aware of new developments in industry and process and has ability to apply them to work as appropriate.

-           Troubleshooting and problem solving of DB2 AIX and Windows development.

-           Set up and configure ODBC connections and troubleshoot ODBC issues.

-           Determine time estimates and schedule for own work and resolve issues in a timely manner.

-           Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.

-           Communicate accurate and useful status updates.

-           Strong communication skills; both written and spoken.

 

In accordance with the terms of Contract No. 4400007198 and the duties of staff augmentation personnel outlined therein, staff augmentation personnel shall provide complete knowledge transfer to the Department of all tasks and projects assigned by the Department. Knowledge transfer includes complete written documentation including systems design, technical design and specifications, and coding to the Department for all tasks and projects to which personnel are assigned.
