Job Description
The Database Administrator is responsible for data analysis and database management. Database Administrators typically are involved in maintenance, enhancement, designing of data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning. Database Administrators have a range of skills and knowledge of the utilities and production tools used for data storage management to support the Application Team. Database Administrators have experience upgrading databases from version x to version y and application of database patches. Database Administrators are familiar with vendor support call and escalation procedures. Database Administrators have experience with system monitoring and alerting techniques.

This is an advanced technical position involving the support of large-scale production Oracle and SQL Server database environments, and requires an awareness surrounding managing enterprise-wide Oracle and SQL Server database management systems. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining Oracle and SQL Server databases with respect to installation, configuration, securing, patching, performance and the general over-all health and stability of the database stack. Work involves the troubleshooting of anomalies, creation of new databases, migration of databases between versions, and securing databases to industry best practices. Database technicians typically support individual applications developments team providing consultative and technical support services for state-approved, enterprise-wide Oracle and SQL Server database components. The position will be expected to manage work at the highest technical level with limited supervision. Attention to detail and technical writing skills are a must.Planning and maintenance of the DAM product base, along with interaction to Oracle and SQL services including installation, configuration, and patching.Assist in the problem solving and handling of the most complex technical issues or inquiries.Participate in the planning and implementation of technical changes required to support OIT and our customers by maintaining constant and effective communication channels with customers, managers, peers, subordinates and all disciplines within OIT.Provide direction and participate in the establishment, documentation, and refinement of processes that will ensure consistent and effective service.Assists in planning, developing, coordinating, and managing complex projects in order to achieve agency information systems objectives.Develops and recommends procedures concerning system security and user operations in order to insure system and data integrity and adherence to state and agency information system standards.Advises internal and external technical support personnel in the implementation or configuration details, diagnosis and correction of system problems, upgrades, or expansions in order to assist in resolving problems.
