Responsible for designing, developing, implementing, optimizing, maintaining, and supporting Database Management Systems (DBMS). Analyzes data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, database schemas and file configurations. Collaborates with both technology and application vendors, as needed. Designs, develops, and implements the appropriate database environment to meet defined requirements, including data backup and restore requirements. Drives DBMS patching, upgrades, and maintenance. Documents and drives best practices. Provides experienced consultation to Information Services application teams for customer requests and troubleshooting. Solves complex problems, given the limitations of resource, process and technology. Functions as technical leadership for multi-faceted projects. Staff members in this position are effective and self-sufficient and regularly provide guidance and training to less experienced Database Administrators.
Essential FunctionsManages and maintains Production and non-Production Spectrum Health databases. Working with others, develops an overall database architecture to meet the needs of the organization, and implements/maintains database management system software, such as Oracle or MS/SQL, while ensuring that all change management policies and procedures are being applied.Responsible for analyzing data requirements, and then designing, developing, documenting, and implementing the database schemas to meet those requirements. Utilizing established relationships with both technology and application vendors, collaborates to define system requirements and understand the products and services utilized in Spectrum Health environments. Consults with application teams and vendors on database configuration, function, interfaces, management, and best practices, and provides product functionality and implementation process expertise.Performs backup and recovery processes for Production and for non- Production databases, as required to support application development efforts. Also provides database support for disaster recovery planning and participates in disaster recovery drills in preparation for the execution of the recovery plan, if needed.Drives the application of patches, upgrades, and maintenance to the DBMS. Responsible for documenting and maintaining records on modifications to databases, database product configurations and system parameters that support database functions. Applies database performance tuning processes that are consistent with industry best practices.Provides technical guidance in decision-making and troubleshooting. Takes ownership of resolution for product and/or implementation issues.Participates in risk assessment and assist in root cause analysis.Provides mentorship to less senior team members and is accountable as a role model for customer service excellence.Forward-thinking; provides technical leadership in the analysis of the DBMS environment. Understands both the current and future states of the technology, and can define and articulate pros, cons and recommendations to senior leadership.QualificationsRequired
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent5 years of relevant experience in the fieldPreferred
