CoStar Group serves up over 1.8PB of data from more than 800 SQL Servers that span four On-Prem data centers, two continents, and six different time zones and we are now expanding to AWS Cloud solution rapidly and starting to support Aurora MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Databricks and MongoDB Atlas and other DB engines on the cloud. 

Our highly motivated, extremely talented DBA group is looking for an exceptionally bright Database Engineer who can support both On-Prem and cloud, that will help the company continue to grow to the next level.  If you are seeking a challenge that pushes your limits, passionate about automating and programming to support databases while working with the latest technologies and are looking for responsibilities beyond that of a typical DBA, come to work with us today.  Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience for our customers through continued development, refinement, and improvement of our industry-leading applications.  As a member of the team, you will be relied on for your problem-solving, communication, collaboration, project management, and process adherence skills.

This position is located in Irvine, CA and offers the following schedule of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week.

Responsibilities

Administrate and integrate with Microsoft SQL Server so decent MSFT SQL DBA skill is required

Demonstrate extensive knowledge of all aspects AWS Database Engines (RDS, DynamoDB) 

Include DB technology evaluation, guidance and consultation, design support, task automation and scripting, best practice and standards development, capacity planning, optimization and tuning, system upgrades and migrations, performance management, monitoring, security, backup and recovery, issue troubleshooting, and documentation.

Implement and Maintain Automated Processes using TSQL/PowerShell/Python/Terraform scripts.

Deploy, configure, monitor, and maintain databases in the production, development, and quality assurance environments.

Understand AWS-based architecture and, closely work with DevOps, SecOps, and Develop scripts to support continuous deployment process and maintain the environment via TFS/Terraform.

Work with the Operations & Development team planning server/server-less resource requirements to decide the proper size for specific application requirements and performance metrics.

Process database change requests, including the creation and modification of databases, tables, views, stored procedures, triggers, jobs, etc. in accordance with change control policies.

Analyze problems, anticipate future problem areas, and implement solutions.

Work outside of normal business hours as required to complete projects, work on deployments, and resolve system outages.

Responsible for level 2 systems management and exercises project-level control over initiatives.

Recommend and implement solutions for performance monitoring and tuning. 

Carry out assignments with minimal coaching and guidance from others.

Develop, enhance, and adhere to engineering and administration standards. Uphold and maintain strong documentation. 

To be placed on on-call rotation for a week every three months and respond to system alerts

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited, not for profit university or college (preferably in Computer Science or a related field)

A track record of commitment to prior employers 

2+ years Microsoft SQL server Management experience.

1+ year(s) Other Relational Database Management experience either MySQL or PostgreSQL.

1+ year(s) of supporting large data platforms

2+ years of experience solving data engineering problems with any NoSQL data platforms like Spark, Solr, MongoDB, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB

The ideal candidate will have experience with at least one of the Pubic Cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud Services and Azure experience. Expertise in database administration for configuration, implementation, maintenance, redundancy/HA/DR, security, troubleshooting/performance tuning, upgrades, database, data and server migrations, SQL

Knowledge of any monitoring tools such as Kibana, CloudWatch, DataDog, etc

Preferred Qualifications And Skills

Experience with Windows and Linux Server platform

Expertise in database administration for large Data warehouse/DataMart implementations including configuration, implementation, data modeling, maintenance

Excellent technical expertise in relevant state of the art data technologies, database warehouse data security, data systems, and its design. Able to formulate and present various solutions for business initiatives and discuss pros/cons for each option.

Experience with Data Warehouse technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Redshift, Azure Data Warehouse or Data analytics

Cloud migration experience

2+ years of experience with relevant scripting languages or programming frameworks desired (PowerShell, Python, NodeJS, JavaScript, bash)

Knowledge of automation tools & Scripts: ELK, PRTG, Jenkins, Chef, Lambda, Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure Automation, etc.

This position offers a base salary range of $83,000 – $158,000, based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous benefits plan.
