Work Hours: Part time hours in June for training, then up to 40 hours per week Monday – Friday starting June 23 until August 29, 2025

Day Camp Aquatic Team Leads are responsible for the safety and supervision of the aquatic programs. These will include the recreational swimming and swimming lessons. The Team Leader will provide direct leadership to the lifeguards and swim instructors and assist with the program planning and reporting on camper’s swimming progress. When not being a Team Lead, this person will also have lifeguarding responsibilities and along with the team will be responsible for safety checks and set up of the program equipment and environment, safety and supervision during program delivery as well as the clean up and take down of program equipment. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of customer service, and a sound understanding of risk management.

In this role, you will:   

Work with the Aquatic Coordinator to ensure the pool is properly set up with all paperwork and safety equipment required to meet YMCA of Greater Toronto regulations as well as provincial standards Provide leadership and coaching to swimming instructors, ensuring all indicators are being met for swimming lessons. Assists instructors during classes; frequently participates in the class to demonstrate effective teaching techniques Provide ongoing feedback to lifeguards & swimming instructors Complete a safety check of lifesaving equipment prior to each shift Ensure that all safety and life guarding procedures are adhered to, and in the event of an emergency respond as trained by the Lifesaving Society and YMCA Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; arriving on time, and actively participating and contributing to the development of all camp staff Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning, safety and maintenance to camp sites Act as a positive role model for the campers and fellow staff through embodying the YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp conditions of employment/guidelines and the Ontario Camping Association standards  

You bring: 

Minimum age 18 years old by June 1st Minimum 2 years' experience working in an aquatic environment Current Certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: National Lifeguard (NL) Award, Standard First Aid & CPR level “C” Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification Pool Operator certification an asset Previous experience lifeguarding and instructing swim lessons an asset Experience working with children preferred Experience working as a supervisor or Team Lead preferred YMCA Day Camp experience is an asset Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: Lifting up to 50 lbs. by bending, carrying, pushing and pulling Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment  Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
