Database Administrator with Postgres / MongoDB 

UST is recruiting for a Senior Database Administrator with Postgres / MongoDB skills to join our team located in Bristol/ London.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive support for PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas databases. Facilitate problem resolution by coordinating efforts between the DBA team, affected application teams, other technology teams, and vendor support. Adhere to change control procedures and ensure compliance with best practices. Perform monitoring, backups, troubleshooting, security management, user maintenance, reporting, migrations, upgrades, and data copying tasks. Architect database solutions to optimally meet business needs and performance requirements. Collaborate with application teams on database design and address database-related issues. Develop and execute shell scripts, stored procedures, and SQL for various database management tasks. Optimize and tune queries to enhance database performance. Execute company initiatives in the database space and implement schema changes as directed by AppDev. Plan and implement disaster recovery and database restoration strategies. Recover data from backups and ensure data integrity and availability. Automate routine database tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. Stay current with the latest database technologies and best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (BTech, BE, etc.). Proven experience with at least one of PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas. Strong understanding of database system concepts, including ACID properties, normal forms, backup and recovery mechanisms, DDL vs DML, transaction logging, log shipping, etc. Basic understanding of cloud environments, preferably Azure and AWS. Experience with data warehousing concepts and implementations. Proficiency in shell scripting, stored procedures, SQL, and query tuning. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with various teams. AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification is a plus.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in managing databases in a cloud environment. Familiarity with other database management systems. Strong understanding of database security best practices. Experience with automation tools and techniques. Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
