Dean of Academic Programs **POSITION DETAILS** **ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE** John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. The College seeks staff and faculty members who thrive in multicultural academic environments and are committed to access and excellence in higher education. **POSITION OVERVIEW** Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Academic Programs provides strategic leadership of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum of the college. Building on the college’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan goals, the Dean of Academic Programs leads college efforts to create, schedule, and assess foundational and advanced curriculum. The Dean of Academic Programs works with department chairs, undergraduate program coordinators and graduate program directors as well as all faculty to promote the development and assessment of a forward-looking curriculum that serves the needs of John Jay’s richly diverse student body and New York City. The Dean further ensures success in the curriculum through the implementation of best practices in student learning and support. In overseeing all matters relating to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum of the College, the Dean coordinates closely with the Registrar to create academic schedules, and makes recommendations to the College Council on such matters as proposed programs; additions, deletions and modifications of courses and existing programs; distribution; core requirements; basic skills; academic standards; and, policies pertaining to learning modalities as well as student recruitment and admissions. The Dean of Academic Programs oversees the Associate and Assistant Dean of Academic Programs, Learning Support Programs, the Department of Online Education and Support, Learning Management Support as well as the Honors Program and Macaulay Honors Program at John Jay. The Dean of Academic Programs coordinates closely with the Deans of Academic Engagement and Research to integrate all curriculum with student engagement and retention efforts, student research opportunities, as well as professional advancement opportunities. The Dean of Academic Programs works with the Dean of Faculty to develop faculty pedagogies in keeping with modalities and student needs. Additionally, the Dean of Academic Programs makes recommendations to the Provost on faculty hiring and the distribution of other resources. The Dean of Academic Programs is a diplomatic and data-informed leader with superior communication skills, experience in developing and assessing curriculum, a passion for cultivating outstanding learning experiences for a diverse student body, demonstrated commitment to shared governance, and the collaborative spirit necessary to make Academic Affairs an effective team. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Ensures academic excellence through curating distinctive programs of learning that benefit students and New York City + Works with the Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Assistant Dean of Academic Programs to coordinate a regular schedule of curriculum governance meetings; chairs the Undergraduate Curriculum & Academic Standards Committee (UCASC) and the Committee on Graduate Studies (CGS) and brings all policy, standard and curricular matters to College Council. + Works with Academic Department Chairs as well as the Registrar to create an academic schedule with maximum seat efficiency. + Serves as the lead of all Academic Program Review processes. + Uses student learning assessment data to encourage, incentivize, and steer improvements to curriculum and/or pedagogies. + Performs needs and market assessment of curricular areas for growth or reduction. + Coordinates curriculum closely with student engagement and research programs to maximize student retention and graduation as well as lifelong learning. + Performs annual reviews of Graduate Program Directors regarding their management of the curriculum and student success. + Oversees Department of Online Education and Support and Learning Management Support to ensure high-quality learning experiences online, using all digital media to ensure lively, immersive experiences + Oversees Honors Program and Macaulay Honors College at John Jay to ensure the college attracts and supports a talented and diverse group of students committed to John Jay’s mission. **QUALIFICATIONS** This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. **Preferred qualifications include:** + A Ph.D. from an accredited college/university and a proven leader in curriculum management. + At least 10 years’ relevant experience. + Experience leading planning, policy development, and the management of curricular affairs. + A vision for student education at the College that focuses on retention, engagement, and professional advancement of students in our existing programs. + Proven ability to build and lead a strong and effective team. + Substantive experience conducting and leading others in the assessment of student learning. + A track record of successful networks and working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external constituencies. + Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication abilities. + A demonstrated commitment to diversity. + Excellent planning, time management, and delegation skills. **CUNY TITLE** Dean **COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS** $106,148 - $230,263 commensurate with education and experience.
