Dean of Faculty **POSITION DETAILS** **ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE** John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. John Jay College is pleased to invite applications for the Dean of Faculty. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Faculty has primary responsibility for academic personnel matters and supervises the Director of Faculty Services and the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center. The Dean of Faculty will provide strategic leadership of the entire full- and part-time faculty and will oversee their personnel processes including recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, evaluation, reappointment, tenure, and promotion. The Dean will work with the Office of Compliance and Diversity to ensure we maintain our commitment to a diverse faculty and with the Labor Designee to interpret collective bargaining agreements and help resolve faculty complaints and grievances. The Dean will facilitate training, development and support for department chairs and program directors, supporting leadership development opportunities, and will serve on various governance committees, as appropriate. The Dean of Faculty actively engages faculty in orientations, trainings, consultations and workshops; coordinates with the Faculty Personnel Committee on guidelines, policies, and standards; facilitates informal resolution of faculty complaints; and partners with the Labor Designee and Office of Legal Counsel to resolve formal grievances and disciplinary actions related to faculty. The Dean also oversees the Teaching and Learning Center to promote faculty development in priority areas and works closely with the Dean of Research to encourage and support faculty research. The Dean will complete additional tasks and projects as assigned to meet the institution’s strategic goals. The Dean of Faculty is a diplomatic leader with superior communication skills, a demonstrated commitment to developing, mentoring and advocating for faculty. The chosen candidate will possess the tact to resolve interpersonal conflict, a passion for cultivating a diverse faculty that resembles the John Jay student body, and the collaborative spirit necessary to make Academic Affairs an effective team. **QUALIFICATIONS** This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College. + A Ph.D. from an accredited college/university and rank of tenured, full professor, ideally in an area of focus at John Jay. + At least 3 years’ experience leading faculty as chair or program director. + Superior communication and interpersonal skills. + Excellent planning and time management skills. + A creative and resourceful vision for faculty success. + Proven ability to build and lead a strong and effective team. + An understanding of or experience working in a collective bargaining environment. + A demonstrated track record of successful networks and working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external constituencies. + An appreciation of and demonstrated commitment to diversity. **CUNY TITLE** Dean **COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS** $106,148 - $230,263.CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
