Defense Reporter
Bloomberg
Defense policy and the nature of war are in a moment of historic change. Cyber-warfare has made staggering advances, cheap drones are replacing multibillion dollar legacy programs, AI is increasingly deployed in targeting decisions, and nations from Russia to Israel to the US and China are more willing than ever to violate or test the limits of other nations' sovereignty to pursue their military aims.
President-election Donald Trump has promised to upend the US military-industrial complex, looking to do away with costly legacy weapons programs, boost the fortunes of tech startups and newer entrants including Elon Musk's SpaceX. The business of defense will be one of the most fascinating elements of his second term in office. Adversaries such as Russia aren't standing still, developing hypersonic missiles and space-warfare platforms that threaten to challenge US dominance. China is expanding its nuclear arsenal as the US invests hundreds of billions of dollars in its own atomic upgrades.
