Defense Research Analyst (Mid-level; Native Mandarin Fluency Required)
BluePath Labs is a fast-growing research and management consulting company focused on the challenging research problems for both government and private sector clients. BluePath is looking for at least one (1) Mid-level China Defense Research Analyst to support open-source research on the PLA and China's defense and military aerospace sectors. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen to apply. The Mid-level Defense Research Analyst (China) must be able to independently manage and execute research projects on various topics of interest. This position also provides the opportunity to contribute regularly to "The China Intelligence" publication in partnership with DefenseOne and Peter Singer. The position is primarily remote. If/when there is a return to the office, our team may meet once a week at BluePath offices near Foggy Bottom at 2101 L ST NW, Washington, D.C. This is a full-time salaried position with competitive benefits. BluePath also has the capacity to hold a security clearance as requirements dictate. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: + Data collection and research on assigned projects. + Analysis on China/PLA on various technical and non-technical topics. + Leading and managing project teams from idea/concept to final product. + Write, edit, review, and deliver high quality reports, briefings, and other products. + Effective project planner and communicator within BluePath team and external stakeholders. + Support business development and/or proposals as needed. Required Qualifications: + Bachelor's degree + U.S. citizen + Native fluent Mandarin reading and translating skills. (ILR 4, DLPT 3, HSK 5 or higher for reading and writing is required) + 2+ years independently managing and executing PLA/China defense research and analysis projects. + Intellectually curious with strong attention to detail. + Personal initiative and drive. + Experience managing small project teams. + Able to work independently with minimal oversight while meeting project goals. + Power user of Microsoft Office and comfort utilizing new software products. Desired Qualifications: + Possess a relevant graduate degree or PhD. + Curiosity to propose and execute on own ideas. + Coding skills for data analytics or visualizations. + Previous research and data collection with Mandarin publications. + Previous research and technical analysis of Chinese PLA and defense issues. + Think tank and/or Intelligence Community (IC) experience. + Current or previous security clearance.
