Performs chairside dental assisting and radiography. Guides patients through visits and treatments, ensures charts are complete and necessary information is collected, and coordinates patient flow. Ensures infection control in operatories and with instruments. Maintains supplies.

Performs chairside dental assisting and radiography in a dental specialty clinic with patients who may have received sedation and/or outpatient general anesthesia. Provides client-based oral hygiene and appliance care and completes patient chart documentation in accordance with all applicable regulations. Maintains equipment, dispenses supplies, sets up for all procedures, and follows proper sanitization and sterilization procedures.

The Dental Assistant will provide chair-side dental assisting in the predoctoral and graduate areas within the department of Pediatric Dentistry as well as other related departmental clinical activities. Duties will include assistance with cases of conscious sedation, outpatient intravenous sedation, general anesthesia, and special needs dentistry; radiographic services; dispensing inventory and instrument cassettes; providing oral hygiene instruction to patients; helping with chart management using an electronic health record database, and confirmation of dental appointment for dental patients. This individual will also perform a variety of duties that follow established University policies and procedures, Infection Control Guidelines, and OSHA requirements to maintain quality assurance procedures.
