GENERIC SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, assists staff and students in the treatment of patients. Assists in the instruction of dental students. Prepares and sets up instruments and materials. Ensures compliance with infection control. Schedules appointments. Compile reports. Ensures maintenance and supply of equipment and materials.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (i) Assists staff and students in treatment of patients and other projects. Hands out required supplies or instruments and looks after patients. (ii) Demonstrates and instructs dental students in the operation of equipment and various techniques. (iii) Assists others in, and ensures compliance with, infection control procedures protocols and policies. (iv) Schedules appointments. Verifies patient charts and procedure sheets. (v) Disinfects and sterilizes equipment and instruments. Prepares, sets up and ensures availability of instruments, materials and supplies used in clinics and research and teaching laboratories. Develops radiographs. (vi) Disseminates information regarding schedules, rotations, conferences, etc. (vii) Maintains inventory. Recommends and purchases equipment and material. (viii) Maintains equipment and performs repairs. Arranges for servicing. Ensures cleanliness and safety of work areas. (ix) Completes various forms and prepares reports relating to activities of the unit. (x) Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge. (xi) Uses a variety of instruments, such as dental unit, ultrasonic cleaners, amalgamator, incubator, suction tubes, sprayer, etc. (xii) The list of duties and responsibilities outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an employee whose position has been matched to this generic job description.
