As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services. This position is located in Thomasville, Georgia – Southwest Community Clinic Job Description Job Title: Dental Assistant – Southwest Community Clinic , Thomasville, Georgia Pay Grade: D Job Responsibilities: Dental Assistant – Southwest Community Clinic , Thomasville, Georgia Under the limited supervision of the Dentist within the DBHDD Division of the Southwest Community Clinic, the Dental Assistant will support the Dentist or Registered Dental Hygienist treating individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Required Knowledge/Competencies: + Under general supervision, assists the dentist and/or hygienist in chair-side dentistry. + Prepares dental operatory, escorts patient pre-operative and post-operative to and from the treatment area. + May perform administrative duties. + Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies. + Cleans and polishes removable appliances. + Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays. + Instructs a client in oral hygiene and plaque control programs. + Sterilizes and disinfects instruments; sets up instrument trays; prepares materials and assists dentist during dental procedures. + Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist. + Records treatment information in client records. + Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of clients. + Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Vocational/Technical degree in dental assisting from an accredited college AND Six months of experience as a dental hygienist OR High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in a dental setting. *Additional Information - Selected applicant must meet the following standards: · Must pass a pre-employment background check (which includes criminal records check, driver's history, and verification of work history) and a post-hire federal background investigation. · Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program. · Eligible to work in the U.S. · Able to perform the essential functions of the job.
