Position Summary: Conducts comprehensive dental examinations, provides diagnoses, and treats oral diseases, injuries, and structural complications. Prescribes patients with appropriate medication and records prescription, procedure, and patient condition data in medical history charts. May participate in employee evaluations, provides guidance and direction to Dental Assistants, Hygienists, and support staff, and collaborates with other medical professionals.


Critical Tasks: 

Conducts comprehensive dental examinations and diagnoses patients through the use of medical history, radiographs, and other tests as appropriate.Diagnoses and treats oral diseases, injuries, and structural complications within the scope of clinical privileges and expertise.Prescribes patients with medications for infection control, pain relief, and the prevention of viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.Reviews and records dental treatments in medical charts and other records to ensure accurate and timely documentation.Examines patient teeth, takes and review oral radiographs, and establishes a plan of care to restore or improve teeth condition. Reviews plan with patient and their family to ensure understanding.Performs a variety of restorative and corrective procedures such as filling teeth, fitting corrective appliances, and performing tooth extractions.Administers topical and local anesthesia and monitors patient condition. Responds to emergency conditions and provides appropriate treatment to teeth and oral surfaces.Educates patients in oral hygiene practices to prevent the spread of oral diseases and support oral health.May participate in employee performance evaluation procedures by reviewing completed work, work techniques, and adherence to established practices, methods, and procedures.Guides and directs Dental Assistants, Hygienists, and other support staff.Collaborates with other medical and specialty areas to discuss and obtain consultative services for cases that require a multi-disciplinary approach.Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications: 

Doctoral Degree in Dentistry, DDS or DMD required. Completion of an approved clinical Residency program in specialty area required. Current and Valid U.S. State license to practice dentistry. State of Arizona license required within one year in position. Board certified required OR Board eligible within 3 years of completing training. Current and continuing BLS training and certification. Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
