The School of STEM and the Department of Veterinary Technology at Northwestern State University of Louisiana seeks applications from enthusiastic individuals interested in the Department Head of Veterinary Technology position. This is a 12-month, tenure-track Assistant/ Associate Professor position beginning July I, 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately.

Minimum Qualifications
+ The successful candidate must have earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and have the appropriate license to practice in Louisiana.
+ The Candidate must also be USDA-APHIS accredited (Category 2) to write health certificates and be eligible for Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) licensure to order and dispense controlled substances.
Job Concepts
+ As department head of this program, the individual will be responsible for the academic and fiscal control of the Veterinary Technology Department within the School of STEM and will serve as Program Director -maintaining national accreditation of this degree through the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
+ The department head must also promote and recruit for the program by building local relationships with area schools, veterinary professionals, animal societies, attend university recruiting events, and provide workshops for community and undergraduate outreach.
+ The candidate will be the University Veterinarian and serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and be the USDA liaison for the university.
+ The successful applicant must also teach some combination of six contact hours of undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in the areas of general veterinary technology, medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, animal care and health, diseases of animals, clinical parasitology, hospital technology, and radiology. Preference will be given to applicants with prior clinical, administrative, and/or teaching experience.
