Department Summary:

MITRE’s Systems Security Engineering department specializes in developing and applying theory and best practices to our Sponsor's biggest challenges with their systems and systems of systems.  Historically, this department has focused on Systems Security Engineering but is increasing its area of expertise into areas such as resilience and survivability.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Work with division leaders to develop a strategy and execution plans to firmly keep MITRE as a leader in Systems Engineering.Identify, develop, and scale technologies that will improve the security and resilience of systems and systems of systems.Provide technical leadership in executing the Department’s work programShape sponsor work to be of the highest impact on the sponsor.Hire and develop world-class engineers and scientists by inspiring, coaching, and rewarding employees as well as establishing an impactful work environment.Grow the number of MITRE Labs staff at our Colorado Springs campusBe a Trusted Advisor to MITRE’s Portfolio Leaders, particularly those at CS campus.Actively foster a department culture of curiosity, collaboration, and creativityCreate an environment for staff success.Manage the department budget consistent with department and division priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Demonstrated technical skills relevant to Systems Engineering, which can include requirements engineering, architecting, designing, testing, and “ilities” engineering such as security and reliability; using such skills as AI and Model-Based Systems Engineering.The position requires you to be onsite in our Colorado Springs campus as a hybrid employee.Experience as a manager of technical staff, with a record of developing, mentoring, hiring, and growing technical teams.Experience in developing technical work programs.Experience strengthening relationships through communication and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders and decision-makers.Hold a current DoD Secret clearance.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing and developing staff who are in different geographic locations.Expertise in Systems Engineering.Expertise in Systems Security Engineering.Expertise in Resilience Engineering.Expertise in Survivability Engineering.Expertise in innovation and contributing to the growth of new technologies, driving changes in the enterprise.Hold a master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering, science, or math program.Hold a DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$188,500 - $235,500 - $282,500 Annual
