Description and Functions
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Prison Division is currently hiring a Deputy Administrator. The successful candidate will work with the Prison Division Administrator to oversee 5 adult state correctional facilities and the programs that support their operations. Responsibilities include formulating and implementing departmental policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to the administration and operation of inmate housing and classification, educational programs, Crisis Negotiation, Emergency Preparedness, and Security Threat Group teams. Responsible for agency compliance with, and implementation of, the Prison Rape Elimination Act and the Victim Notification Program. Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace. Assist the Wardens, Deputy Wardens, and other facility staff with the implementation of department priorities and Administrator directives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
+ Provide general oversight to the Prison Division in the absence of the Administrator.
+ Work with Division Administrator and Wardens to provide safe and effective operations for all facilities
+ Ensure programming housing assignments reflect the agency's program priorities.
+ Oversee Victim Services and compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act in all facilities. Oversee and assist staff with annual federal audits and DOC internal audits.
+ Oversee inmate vocational education to ensure inmates are provided with educational opportunities.
+ Oversee inmate housing and classification to ensure inmates are appropriately housed according to classification assessment tools, considering facility and inmate needs.
+ Collaboratively work with agency leadership to accomplish goals for inmates and offenders throughout incarceration
+ Provide oversight of the emergency preparedness program for the agency
+ Directly oversee the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and Firearms Committee. Ensure timely activation of the team when needed.
+ Investigate and respond to a variety of staff and inmate correspondence including legal matters when necessary
+ Serve as a member of the Security Threat Group team leadership committee.
+ Oversee various contractual services and performances such as inmate telephones, video visitation, and satellite television contracts.
+ Oversee operational endeavors at all WDOC facilities such as transportation, physical plant, food service, etc. in concert with each respective Warden.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field and eight (8)) years of progressive work in adult correctional facilities at the executive management level.
Preference will be given to those with a correctional Executive Certification and a background that spans the correctional continuum to include direct work with inmates, offenders, and correctional majors and above.

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Lifting/grasping up to 20 pounds without assistance on an occasional to regular basis
+ Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis
+ Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
