Deputy Bureau Chief, Germany, Switzerland and Austria - Reuters
Reuters is seeking an outstanding journalist to be its deputy bureau chief for Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Based in Berlin, this person will be primarily responsible for driving ambitious news coverage across politics, economics and general news in Germany. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of journalists in a dual language newsroom, leveraging the talent of our reporters across Reuters’ German and English language services to deliver a strong file of exclusive and insightful stories.
As Europe’s largest economy, Germany is one of Reuters’ most important markets for news coverage. We’re looking for someone who can help us chart the biggest shake-up in German politics since the end of the Cold War as the far-right gains in popularity ahead of snap federal elections in 2025. They will examine how the war in Ukraine has forced Berlin to revive its flagging armed forces and confront the biggest risk to European security in decades. They will also come up with innovative ways to examine the headwinds facing Germany’s economy and the travails of its once-mighty manufacturing industry as it battles with rising costs and competition from China.
This is a role for someone with a proven record of conceptualising and delivering ambitious pieces of journalism and experience in managing a busy newsroom
