Essential Functions
What You’ll Do:
Key Responsibilities
As a Deputy Chief of Community Corrections, you will:
+ Supervision of our team to include pretrial and probation officers, ensuring proper training, performance reviews, and adherence to workplace safety and harassment-free environment standards.
+ Ensure compliance with Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) mandates, state laws, and local policies, including Frederick County Human Resources regulations.
+ Monitor staff-to-client ratios and ensure compliance with grant guidelines and DCJS standards for offender/defendant supervision.
+ Assist in fostering our mission, values, and culture.
+ Schedule and coordinate training programs for staff members to ensure professional growth and adherence to best practices.
+ Represent ODCS at the Winchester/Frederick Behavioral Health Docket (BHD) and supervise BHD participants.
+ Provide direct supervision of pretrial defendants and probationers when needed.
+ Assist officers with conducting drug tests, breathalyzer tests, and managing hostile situations involving clients.
+ Review and approve violation letters and ensure proper documentation for all client supervision activities.
+ Serve as a liaison between various stakeholders, including courts, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and social service agencies.
+ Provide educational presentations to community agencies, universities, and civil organizations.
Typical Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in the criminal justice field, such as corrections, probation, or court services.
+ Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and remain calm in stressful situations.
+ Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deescalate emotionally charged situations.
+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with clients, staff, and external stakeholders.
+ Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certification within 60 days of hire.
