THE OPPORTUNITY

Plan International Ghana is looking to recruit a highly experienced and qualified professional for the position of Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for the USAID-funded Ghana Advancing Protection and Care for Children in Adversity (Child Protection) Activity. The DCOP will provide overall technical leadership in child protection, development and care as well as support the COP in all aspects of project design and implementation.

 

 

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE

S/he will have strategic vision, leadership qualities, depth and breadth of management experience, interpersonal skills and written and oral presentation skills to fulfill the diverse managerial requirements of the activity. The DCOP will be responsible for project technical quality and integrity of the project, especially in child protection, development and care, including gender equity and CEFMU, early child development (including children with disabilities) and family strengthening.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The position involves but is not limited to:

Providing technical leadership in child protection, development, and care, ensuring project quality and integrity. Supporting the COP in all aspects of project design, planning, and implementation. Leading the integration of gender equity, CEFMU, early childhood development (including for children with disabilities), care reform, family strengthening and system strengthening and social behaviour change into the project. Overseeing the technical execution of child protection strategies and interventions. Provide strategic direction, vision, and leadership to the project team. Represent the project in meetings with donors, government officials, and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with USAID goals. Managing effective communication, reporting, and compliance with project and donor requirements.

 

 

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications & Experience

The position holder must meet the following minimum requirements:

 

Master’s degree in social work, sociology, law, public administration, or related areas is required. A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in management of social services and/or child protection programming A minimum of five (5) years of working in any of the following technical areas: Social work, child protection, gender equity, early childhood development, work with children with disabilities, care reform, family strengthening or systems strengthening. Experience working with parenting programs, social behavior change or capacity strengthening of government systems and staff is a plus. Demonstrated leadership skills and experience to build and maintain productive working relationships with a wide network of institutional partners and stakeholders, including high-level host country governments and international agencies. Proven track record of building teams and fostering collaboration in order to achieve goals, meet milestones and produce quality results. Demonstrated knowledge of USAID procedures pertaining to project design and implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation, and financial management and reporting. Proficiency in at least one of Ghana’s local languages.
