Role Overview: The Deputy Commissioner of the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and health of workers across the state by overseeing the agency’s enforcement efforts and promoting voluntary compliance among Hoosier employers. This executive leadership position is responsible for developing, monitoring, and directing the strategic initiatives to reduce and eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in executive leadership, with the ability to drive strategic initiatives and foster a culture of innovation and excellence. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $102,024.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the Life: + Oversee the enforcement and voluntary compliance operations of the IOSHA to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with state and federal requirements and regulations. + Develop long-term strategies with short-term goals and milestones for the IOSHA to achieve the agency’s mission. + Develop and issue IOSHA-specific policy to provide related to enforcement operations. + Oversee the administration of the Indiana Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)—a cooperative program for employers and employees with demonstrated effective occupational safety and health management systems. + Monitor mandated performance measures and other key metrics related to IOSHA’s enforcement operations to drive continuous improvement. + Serve as the primary contact and liaison with representatives from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for program monitoring and evaluation purposes. + Identify and pursue opportunities for efficiencies and cost reductions. + Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., trade associations, labor unions, business associations, other professional groups, etc.). + Represent IOSHA and the agency at industry events, conferences, VPP certification celebrations, and public forums to promote occupational safety and health initiatives and excellence. Make public presentations and serve as keynote speaker at various events and functions. + Serve as the point of contact on behalf of IOSHA to the next of kin in all IOSHA occupational fatality-related investigations and inspections. + Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to build trust and collaboration as it relates to occupational safety and health. What You'll Need for Success: + Proven experience as an Executive or other leadership role. + Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans. + Ability to navigate complex organizational challenges and drive change. + Familiarity with federal grant writing and administration. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. + Strong financial acumen and experience. + Ability to operate with integrity and transparency.
