The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.
Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.
Purpose of the Role
The Deputy Design Manager (DDM) assists the Design Manager in the overall design development of the Snowy 2.0 project by delivering design solutions in accordance with agreed time, cost, quantity and scope requirements. He reports to the Design Manager and leads all aspects of the main works and completion works across the project, coordinating FGJV’s engineering team and acting as the liaison between the Civil Works Designers and Technical Office. This role involves coordinating design activities between different design companies and contract communication with contract division and subcontract leads. The DDM is responsible for managing project documentation and providing technical support throughout the design phase. Furthermore, the Deputy Design Manager assigns work to the Design Package Lead Engineers and supervises their day-to-day work activities.

Experience
Minimum 15 years of experience working in engineering design Demonstrated experience in managing multiple design consultants on complex, multidisciplinary hydropower or infrastructure projects, including establishing and managing quality systems to ensure the integrity of design Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable projects works Experience on EPC type contracts involving E&M scope integration Underground project experienceRequired Competencies

Assist the Design Manager in overseeing the design process. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications. Coordinate design-related meetings and communicate effectively with all stakeholders. Review and analyse design proposals, ensuring alignment with client objectives. Manage project documentation, including drawings, reports, and specifications. Identify and mitigate design risks through proactive problem-solving strategies with designers and client. Lead the designer contract in coordination with the Subcontract Division.Responsible for design delivery of all civil and completion works in line with design programme including approval from the Employer Responsible to ensure compliance of all civil and completion works design submissions with the Employer’s Requirements Coordination with Design Subcontractors on a day-to-day basis, to provide timely construction inputs to the design and ensure timely delivery of the design packages in line with design programme Review all the submissions of civil and completion works from DJV to ensure all agreed construction methodologies and construction sequences are properly incorporated into the design and provide comments in case of any deviations, to ensure the design is constructible in line with agreed construction inputs. Engage with the Employer and arrange workshops between Designers and the Employer, to explain the design submittal towards expedition of faster approval for the design. In case of any comments received from the Employer on the design submittal, review all the comments properly and prepare the responses with the help of the Designers, if required. Ensure timely submission of responses within the allowed response period to the Employer and arrange a comments resolution meeting between the Employer and Designers Supervise and delegate work to discipline engineers as necessary to manage specific engineering tasks to ensure timely delivery of design packages to the Employer for approval Engage with Construction team to seek input on agreed construction methodology and sequence for each specific project element and provide timely clarification on design related queries to construction team whenever requested. Day-to-day management, execution and delivery of the allocated design packages within budget and to an agreed quality Leadership, planning and prioritisation of team Coordination of design across disciplines Compliance with systems and procedures including quality and Occupational Health and Safety Serving as the primary contact with FGJV peer reviewers for respective technical discipline issues
Schedule required consultants and estimated design fees Read and comment on written submission, provide Contractors Proposals documentation if required Liaise with Planning, Building Control and all appropriate bodies to meet statutory and planning obligations Create Project and internal monthly design reports
