This Opportunity:
The Deputy Director, Strategic Growth is a key leadership position within the Americas Regional Business Partnership’s Strategic Growth Team that is responsible for helping to achieve Palladium’s growth objectives. The Deputy Director will serve as the de facto deputy to the Senior Director of Strategic Growth. This position will act on behalf of the Senior Director, representing Strategic Growth in senior leadership team meetings as well as at external events. The Deputy Director will work directly with the Palladium Strategic Growth Team and all of Palladium ARBP’s International Development practice areas and portfolios to secure work from new and existing clients.
Location and Compensation:
The position is based in Palladium’s Washington D.C. office.
For our prospective employees in the United States, please note that the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to range from $122,000 to $205,000, and successful candidates may also be eligible for additional, variable incentive compensation dependent on the role. Reporting Lines:
This position will report to the Senior Director, Strategic Growth, and will guide the Strategic Growth workstreams This role will be responsible for liaising with Palladium’s Pricing and Value Analytics team and Contracts and Compliance team on cost proposals The role will be required to liaise closely with practice, portfolio, and support area employees, consultants, partner organizations, and donor agencies/other funding entitiesPrimary Duties and Responsibilities:
Proposal Development and Quality
Oversee and improve the quality of capture efforts and proposal development across the Americas Regional Business Partnership Ensure that the “Palladium Way” of capturing and developing proposals is maintained, emphasizing the “One Palladium” approach Continue to advance a culture of continuous improvement in business development processes and tools that improve effectiveness of capture and proposal efforts Improve the quality of compliance review across ARBP and ensure a compliance reviewer is on each proposal color review Oversee the development of proposals with responsibility for ensuring that high-quality technical and financial bids are submitted on timeStrategic Thinking
Provide strategic thinking, support development and growth of the opportunity pipeline, monitor and track the progress of capture efforts and bids, and ensure documentation of key lessons Advise portfolios on processes needed to achieve a high win rate on proposals submitted, with continual review for quality, compliance, and efficiency improvementStaff Development
Provide guidance and mentoring to staff at all levels and in all capture roles, including providing mentorship, coaching, and oversight (as appropriate) to new capture/proposal managers and proposal coordinators Supervise training and development initiatives that improve the quality of proposals and increase the capacity of staff in all areas of business developmentWork with Training Workstream staff as a subject matter expert to create an effective training program on all steps within the capture lifecycleRelationship Building
Attend key internal and external meetings and represent the Americas Regional Business Practice and the company, including with the client and potential partners, both in the U.S. and globally
Create meaningful relationships with Americas Regional Business Practice leadership and staff, support department staff, bid partners, and consultants
Develop relationships and identify opportunities for cross-collaboration and synergies with other parts of the Palladium’s business (e.g., other partnerships, regions, and divisions)
Build relationships that will enable promotion of a culture of “new business is everyone’s business” within Palladium, leverage relationships with Portfolio Leads to cascade cultural changes and business development expectations throughout the company
Capacity and Efficiency Building
Train and develop the team, ensuring excellent levels of business development skills, strategic thinking, responsiveness, and results
Essential Criteria:
Proven experience in business development, managing bids, and taking key proposal roles
Deep understanding of international development procurement processes and general familiarity with various technical subject matters
Sound business development and internal customer/client relationship management skills
Prior experience directly supervising a team of employees
Ability to provide timely and direct feedback to direct reports and other departmental staff with appropriate diplomacy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and writing skills, and the ability to conceptualize and write select proposal sections
Adept at working under tight deadlines, with multiple/simultaneous bid efforts, and across time-zone challenges
Financial acumen and the ability to interpret and analyze financial reports
Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills
Strong organizational skills and deep attention to detail
