Run digital simulations predicting how yet-to-be-built components will perform in the field. Collaborate with a global team. In all these ways and many more, Caterpillar engineers conceptualize ideas that become real-world products in our factories—and make progress possible around the globe. **Responsibilities** + This position will be focused on clutch and brake design, testing and analysis, and will include supporting on-machine tests at proving ground locations as well as consulting with lab development and analysis teams. + Identify and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, controls and data acquisition problems. + Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, schematics, and computer-generated scripts and reports. + Perform or support physical test setup, measure/inspect, analysis, and report writing activities with transmission and brake components and oil system elements. Examples include: performing performance and durability evaluations on hydraulic components, service brakes and parking brakes, drivetrain, transmission, and axles systems. + Meet client and customer expectations for test planning, execution, and reporting. **Degree Requirement** Bachelor's degree in mechanical, materials, automotive, mechatronic or similar engineering field is required **Skill Descriptors** Analytical Thinking: • Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. • Investigates and researches alternatives on formal papers and literature. • Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions. • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, A3 format, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns. • Identifies the major forces, events and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand. • Uses logic and common sense to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions. Computer-Aided Design & Product Development: • Communicates with experts to understand various requirements of product design. • Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use. • Considers cost, manufacturability and technical feasibility of the product concept. • Generates specifications for parts or components with CAD software. • Able to create 3D representations, analyze space claims, conduct tolerance stack up analysis. • Creates views of objects in 2 and 3 dimensions; creates perspective drawings and orthogonal views • Moderate experience in friction / fatigue testing and design roles **Top Candidates will also have the following experience and attributes:** + Hydraulic components, parking brakes, power train, transmission, or axles design, performance and testing experience. + Components validation experience, including physical parts testing, test data analysis and documentation + Simulation + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Self-Driven, team player and detail oriented. + Analytical and problem-solving skills + Software/Analysis Experience: + Experience with CREO, DATK, MATLAB, ATI Vision, CANape, J1939, ProLink, Tableau, Somat Edaq, data acquisition and instrumentation, and test scripting in various languages similar to Visual Basic is a plus. **Additional information** + Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time **Final details** Please frequently check the email associated with your application, including the junk/spam folder, as this is the primary correspondence method.
