Job Title: Design Engineer - Aerospace

Job Description

As a Design Engineer - Airworthiness Management, you will play a vital role in ensuring that design proposals for modifications on an airworthiness program. You will collaborate with engineering members to develop technical solutions by supporting system design efforts and influencing them with respect to airworthiness compliance. You will interface with various internal teams and disciplines and engage with external stakeholders, suppliers, and the end customer to gather information, request support, provide updates, and ensure alignment with project goals.

ResponsibilitiesSupport technical type design efforts and influence them to ensure compliance with the DND's airworthiness program.Review engineering change requests and participate in the classification of type design changes.Develop technical studies, documents, reports, and proposals.Verify specifications for type designs comply with applicable airworthiness rules and standards.Liaise with the Design Authority and Type Certificate Holder (TCH) for approved type designs.General problem-solving of technical issues.Address non-compliance issues.Prepare airworthiness documentation, including risk assessments, deviations, specific purpose flight permits, Technical Airworthiness Clearance plans.Interpret and ensure adherence to airworthiness standards, processes, and the Technical Airworthiness Manual (TAM).Oversee airworthiness activities.Notify the Senior Group Manager of procedural deficiencies and recommend improvements.Support the Senior Group Manager to ensure organizational personnel are trained and knowledgeable in airworthiness-related tasks.Ensure quality oversight for all airworthiness-related activities within the ATO’s scope.Other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsMinimum 5+ years of aircraft engineering experience, ideally 10+ years, with airworthiness exposure.Customer-facing and interaction experience.Versatile and knowledgeable in various aircraft domains (structures, mechanical systems, engines, EWIS).Proven leadership, guidance, and management experience for a small group.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Knowledge of the DND technical airworthiness rules and standards, TAM chapters, and airworthiness monitoring.Proficiency in preparing airworthiness documentation to satisfy the TAA.Strong understanding of airworthiness responsibilities for both internal and external tasks.Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and maintain effective communication.Work Environment

Ideally working at the North Bay office, or from an office in Ottawa or remotely for a suitable candidate. Reporting directly to the Sr Group Manager, you will essentially act as their right hand. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.
