Design Engineer I - Jigs and Fixtures

This role will support Prototype Fabrication Teams for engineering design and development of Jigs/Fixtures used for holding vehicle parts/assemblies during processes such as weld, paint, assembly, and testing.ResponsibilitiesLead and support the engineering design activities for Jigs/Fixtures used in Prototype Vehicle Assembly by investigating feasibility, performing design using 3-D modeling software, conducting layout review and 2D drawing creation.Develop and mature assigned components from scratchUnderstanding Vehicle Body-in-white (BIW) part construction, datums, and weld information to incorporate into fixture designSupport development groups (Interior Design, Aerodynamics Team, etc.) with requests for fixturing, test equipment, or prototyping needs Analyze and resolve problems with moderate level of guidance and direction. Create part specification requirements and BOM.Negotiate with surrounding component business units and suppliers. Use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve product and/or processes. Search new ways to increase overall efficiency, utilize up-to-date technology, and reduce design and parts costs. Travel to client sites required.RequirementsMinimum Bachelor’s degree and 1+ years of industry experience in Automotive Design for Body-In-White (BIW)/Sheetmetal/Machining parts requiredEducation with the following specialties preferred: Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Aerospace, Automotive.
