Job Description:
Position Title: Design Engineer II
Location: Redmond, WA
Reporting to: Design Engineer Project
This is a product design role located in Redmond, WA for heavy off-road mobile equipment and will be tasked with developing and applying reliable engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Implement technical projects in the design, development, testing and documentation of heavy off-road mobile equipment products
Perform design, analysis, and testing of electric/hybrid powertrain components along with system architecture and performance calculation
Perform design and testing of electrical control systems related to product design including harnesses, power distribution, and basic mechatronics programming
Develop innovative new designs from initial concept to implementation and advance existing designs and technologies
Verify and document compliance with applicable global and regional standards
Specify component and machine testing, create procedures and detail testing processes
Work closely with our global design engineering team and sustain a dynamic and creative engineering work atmosphere
Document designs with solid part models, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks
Verify designs using traditional analytical methods in conjunction with appropriate analytical tools
Verification of designs through hands on testing and prototyping
Create and maintain complete machine product structures including bills of materials, Models and Options, and service parts information
Research, specify and test manufactured and purchased parts working closely with the materials group and suppliers
Maintain a focus on design for manufacturability and work closely with the global manufacturing teams and production facilities to assist in product and process improvements
Required Qualifications
ABET or equivalent accredited B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or closely related field
2+ years’ relevant experience in one or more of these areas or M.S. in engineering:
Powertrain Systems (axles, wheel drives, brake systems),Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System design/architecture (AC/DC motors, motor controllers, chargers, batteries, generators) Hydraulic system design/architecture (pumps, manifolds, hydraulic motors)Electric & Hydraulic power calculations, system efficiency improvements, drive power calculationsExperience with Electro-Mechanical system layout/controlsPreferred Qualifications
Experience in machine design or related industry
Strong orientation towards safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficient with analytical tools.
Experience with designing and troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic systems.
Ability to follow sequenced work associated with complex design tasks.
Has basic understanding across multiple areas of engineering and may have advanced understanding in a specific area: Mechanical Design, Hydraulic Systems, or Electrical Systems.
Experience applying engineering principals to solve complex problems with little or no guidance, identifying and working through multi-disciplinary complex technical problems independently.
Experience with Plus+1 or other PLC
Experience designing high voltage power system design
Experience with Lithium battery qualification and machine integration
The compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
