Design Engineer II

Responsibilities

Complete gear box design, components and accessories (castings, fabrications, revolving elements, shafts, coolers, backstops, etc.) meeting cost and capability targets.Identify and execute cost saving opportunities of existing products and designs.Managing engineering work and priorities of the project team to align with milestones and stretch goals of project schedule (Stage Gate Process)Produce/support technical documentation (catalogs, manuals, assembly instructions, etc.)Drawing review, approval, and release coordinationGuides domestic and international design teamsWrites specifications (design specifications, drafting instructions, product specifications)Select and integrate components into design, interaction with suppliers/vendorsAssist manufacturing floor personnel with technical help/informationProvide technical support to other departmentsCreate test plans, monitor tests and summarize results and perform data analysisFamiliar with GD&T, FMEA, Lean processes and material/component selection.Continuous improvement and demonstrated mastery in diverse settings are valuable in the role.PPAP, supplier development and qualification experiences are desirable.Manage multiple projects at the same time and stay on track for required dates.Product knowledge capture, curator and dissemination within a cross functional environment.Always promote a safe working environment by following established and required safety policies and practices.Unquestionable business and personal integrity.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in mechanical engineering with emphasis in mechanical design.A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development of industrial products or components, preferably with gearing.Strong User of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project), CAD software (SolidWorks), PDM systems and ERP system such as SAP. Knowledge of industrial gearboxes, manufacturing processes, castings, fabrications, forgings, sheet metal parts, fittings, and fasteners gained through previous work experience.Ability to work in a fast-paced, metric driven environment, effectively prioritize and execute tasks with a sense of urgency and manage work required per project plan.Knowledge and experience with the principles, design and application of multiple types of gearing (helical, bevel, worm, etc.)Strong communication skills (Verbal, Email, Messaging, and Video).Ability to develop and manage action plans for assigned technical projects (Project Management).
