Design Engineer (Mechanical) - Plant Farley
Mechanical Design Engineer - Plant Farley Job Summary This position is responsible for providing tactical mechanical engineering support for Southern Nuclear at Plant Vogtle. Tactical support can include both design services to support day to day operation of the plant as well as supporting emergent plant issues. Design services include preparation / coordination of designs, calculations, drawings, cost estimates and schedules for plant modifications and retrofits. Emergent issue support includes supporting emergent plant issues through troubleshooting, evaluating as-found conditions for design & licensing basis impact, or performing evaluations to support the day to day operation of the plant. Work involves field walk downs as well as office work. The position will be filled at an exempt level commensurate with candidate's experience and qualifications. Education Requirements: ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (not Engineering Technology) is required. Mechanical Engineering degree is desired. Professional Engineer registration is desired. At least 5 years' experience in some or all the following areas is desired: Previous Nuclear Power Plant design/retrofit experience Familiarity with design engineering processes Working knowledge of mechanical design codes and requirements Working knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding commercial nuclear power plant design Experience with development and maintenance of design related calculations Experience with system troubleshooting, problem solving, and causal analysis Knowledge, Skills & Abilities expected: Strong oral and written communication skills. Proven organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously. Capable of working efficiently and effectively across multiple departments/organizations. Strong problem solving, decision making abilities. Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering judgments based on experience and proper application of good engineering practices. Basic understanding of design/design configuration, project management, maintenance and procurement processes associated with large industrial plant equipment. Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities desired: Proficient in the use of Computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD, Inventer, etc.) and database management software (Documentum, etc.).
