The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of design engineers in the development of complex systems and products for our customers. The Manager Design Engineering 1 will be responsible for ensuring that all design work is completed to the highest standards and that projects are delivered on time and within budget. What You Will Do + Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. + Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. + Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. + Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. + Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. + Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. + Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers. What You Must Have + 4 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 2 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years relevant progressive experience. + Candidate must have engineering and design experience in Mechanical design in a marine environment to include material selection, mechanical fittings, flow and pressure calculations for HVAC and/or piping systems, fluid and pneumatic systems, pumps, and governing manuals/standards. + Candidate must have experience with conducting shipboard investigations of machinery, piping, and mechanical systems. + Candidate must have experience working in a cross functional area with an understanding of how the mechanical aspects of the system will affect adjacent specialties. E.g. replacing a pump with a different model with different power requirements and weight will affect the electrical system and the ship weight and moment calculations. + Candidate must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. + Candidate must have technical and report writing experience. + Candidate must have experience with managing/checking/developing AutoCAD drawings to support shipbuilding design requirements. + Candidate must be proficient with the full Microsoft Office Suite + Candidate must have a Confidential level security clearance with the capability to upgrade to and maintain a Secret level clearance. + Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. Bonus Points For Having! + A professional engineer license or ability to obtain such. + Leaderships experience and an understanding of how to take care of your staff while still meeting mission. + Client relations experience. + Training and/or public speaking experience. + Experience with coordinating and leading ship checks on military vessels. Physical Requirements May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
