The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of design engineers in the development of complex systems and products for our customers. The Manager Design Engineering 1 will be responsible for ensuring that all design work is completed to the highest standards and that projects are delivered on time and within budget. What You Will Do + Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. + Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. + Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. + Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. + Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. + Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. + Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers. What You Must Have + 4 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 2 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years relevant progressive experience. + Candidate must have engineering and design experience in Mechanical design in a marine environment to include material selection, mechanical fittings, flow and pressure calculations for HVAC and/or piping systems, fluid and pneumatic systems, pumps, and governing manuals/standards. + Candidate must have experience with conducting shipboard investigations of machinery, piping, and mechanical systems. + Candidate must have experience working in a cross functional area with an understanding of how the mechanical aspects of the system will affect adjacent specialties. E.g. replacing a pump with a different model with different power requirements and weight will affect the electrical system and the ship weight and moment calculations. + Candidate must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. + Candidate must have technical and report writing experience. + Candidate must have experience with managing/checking/developing AutoCAD drawings to support shipbuilding design requirements. + Candidate must be proficient with the full Microsoft Office Suite + Candidate must have a Confidential level security clearance with the capability to upgrade to and maintain a Secret level clearance. + Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. Bonus Points For Having! + A professional engineer license or ability to obtain such. + Leaderships experience and an understanding of how to take care of your staff while still meeting mission. + Client relations experience. + Training and/or public speaking experience. + Experience with coordinating and leading ship checks on military vessels.
