Due to the nature of this role, this position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule, with work performed onsite 3 days each week.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
• Leadership, development planning, performance goals, employee engagement and salary planning responsibilities for the Designer team.
• Lead Design team by exercising extensive judgment, inventiveness and conceptual approaches to designing electrical and electro/mechanical aspects of complex HVAC equipment, machines and assemblies.
• Responsible for creation or review of New Product Development (NPD), Productivity or Lifecycle design project plans, completion of tasks, maintain progress and recommend action should schedules or tasks be in jeopardy of estimated completion.
• Work with the change boards and the Engineering Product Owner(s) to document and maintain a prioritized product project list.
• Support OPEX transformation, including leading continuous improvement activities.
• Assist team in defining, developing and implementing Advanced and Standard Work CAD modeling techniques, CAD design procedures, CAD productivity improvements and CAD verification processes. The Manager will also help in the planning, process definition and change management for the Product Life Management (PLM) system.
• Complete understanding and familiarity of all drafting practices, methods and processes, including GD&T, welding, sheet metal, castings, machining and dimension and tolerance analysis, as outlined in the Trane and CAD drafting manuals, global GED and responsible for enforcement.
• Maintains competency level and improve abilities of computer aided graphic system and other applications.
• Consistently demonstrated responsiveness to the customer (internal and external) and be quality minded in performance of all duties.
• Exercises exceptional communication skills. Will go out of one's way to make sure communication is achieved.
• Occasionally perform audits on engineering documentation from models, drawings, method sheets, BOM and configuration rules to validate design and design intent.
• This position will directly report to the Airside Design & Data Systems Engineering Manager leading designers in multiple locations.
• Ability to travel to various locations to support NPD projects, products and/or train others 10%.
• Adheres to all company safety and security policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate's degree in mechanical or electrical design (or equivalent technical degree) and at least 7 years of relevant work experience in a product design environment - including 2 years team leadership experience.
- OR -
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology (or equivalent technical degree) and at least 5 years of relevant work experience in a product design environment - including 2 years team leadership experience.
Key Competencies:
• Must be an effective team servant leader with a positive, enthusiastic attitude and proven ability to create and promote a “team” environment within a specialized technical engineering group.
• Intimate knowledge of change control processes and procedures fundamentals required.
• Knowledge of PTC products preferred (Creo Parametric, PLM Wind-chill, PDM Link, Piping, Sheet Metal, Creo Schematics, Cabling, Harness)
• Strong project management competency, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• overall knowledge of other various Trane HVAC products, in-depth of some, and understanding of refrigeration cycle.
• Able to function and take on a leadership role in a cross functional, global design engineering team environment which requires interaction with design teams, engineering teams, manufacturing and operations staff relative to project requirements, both inside and outside the company.
• Solid knowledge of CAD technology, techniques and processes required.
• Ability to create, manage and understand project planning, scheduling and manpower assignments for multiple projects.
• Experience in managing departments, supervising and developing people is required.
• Possess highly developed technical skills, in-depth knowledge associated with design and drafting or proven project leadership.
• Demonstrate consistently high leadership qualities, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrates ability to learn new skills and adapt to changing environments.
• Extensive Knowledge/use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.)
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Knowledge of MDP, CINCOM, LYNX and other Trane systems is a plus.
• Knowledge and support of corporate goals, objectives or initiatives.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $90,000-$120,000
