We are looking for a Design System Engineer to join our team and help shape the future user experience of Optimizely's products. You will be a key player in architecture and design decisions for new UI development across Optimizely products. Together with Engineering, Product, and Design, you will research new opportunities, create new user experiences and prototypes, and be a key leader of the Optimizely design system, Axiom.
As a Design System Engineer you will:
Author and maintain UI components that are accessible, performant, scalable, and robustWork closely with product designers, product managers, and engineers to implement solutions for end user and business needsAct as a technical leader in the development of high quality, well-tested, documented, CI/CD-enabled, and high-performance software solutionsServe as an advisor for our frontend UI to teams and leadershipAct as liaison between product design/UX and engineering, providing technical guidance and coachingLead best practice discussions on design systemsFacilitate the distribution of ideas and maintain UI consistency across product linesPursue personal growth by maintaining an awareness of the state of technology, engineering techniques, and best practices of design systemsFacilitate special project planning including requirements elicitation, design, and scopingManage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team
What we're looking for:
You bring significant experience of designing and developing large single-page JavaScript applications using modern JavaScript technologies like React. You’re self-motivated and like to collaborate with your colleagues to find the best solution. You are comfortable with working in a fast-moving agile environment and working closely with User Experience Designers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders.
You have at least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar, or corresponding level of relevant educationYou have 4+ years of experience working professionally with modern development practicesYou have advanced level knowledge of designing, architecting, and developing applications using modern JavaScript technologies in particular using React, Typescript, and SASSYou have experience building and maintaining a performant and responsive design systemYou have an understanding and interest for building and maintaining large applications as well as extensible libraries/frameworks/APIsYou are well-versed in PWA and progressive renderingYou have a strong familiarity of web accessibilityYou have experience with packaging systems (Webpack, Rollup, etc.), frontend testing frameworks (Jest, Enzyme, etc.), linting tools (ESLint, Prettier, etc.), Git, and StorybookOptimizely is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
