Join us. **Job Summary:** As a Design Technician in this role, you will work closely with a product group and engineering project lead to assist in the design and development of cooling systems primarily for mining trucks. This position performs various design activities that include: design concept development utilizing 3D modeling software, assists with analysis work such as from 1d tolerance stack-ups, finite element analysis, and bolted joint analysis, identify and assist in resolution of design problems, work closely with other Caterpillar teams and suppliers, and manage the development and completion of any required drawings to support the manufacturing of prototype parts for validation related to your project designs. **What You Will Do:** • Create 3D models of new designs utilizing PTC Creo • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents • Overseeing the efforts of drafting teams to create any manufacturing drawings related to your designs. • Communicate technical information to team members, other Caterpillar engineering teams and suppliers **Education Requirement:** Associates’ degree within a technical field -Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science **What Skills You Will Have:** **Accuracy and Attention to Detail:** • Ability to approach tasks in an organized fashion to ensure all requirements of task are met • Leverages tools and established processes to ensure swift and accurate completion of tasks **Effective Communications:** • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a team dynamic • Ability to communicate complex concepts or ideas within a team **Initiative:** • Ability to identify critical tasks and prioritize their completion • Able to identify problems and take action to correct them **Maintaining Focus:** • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work requests to completion in order of priority **Problem Solving:** • Uses a structured approach to analyze and resolve technical problems. • Able to develop multiple solutions to a given problem **Teamwork:** • Seeks opportunities to leverage and develop expertise within a core team **Computer-Aided Design & Engineering:** • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of 3d Parametric modeling tools (PTC Creo/Solidworks/Inventor) • Demonstrates expertise in mechanical design practices related to manufacturing **Product Design and Development:** • Working Knowledge of mechanical design practices and methodologies; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs. **Top Candidates will also have:** • Proficiency in application of PTC Creo or other parametric 3D modeling and/or simulation tools • Experience with fabrication or cooling system design • Experience with manufacturing and/or fabrication • Experience maintaining or operating heavy equipment **Additional Information** The location for this position is Rapid City, SD Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
